Sand Gnats Announce 2009 Schedule

SAVANNAH, Ga. -The 2009 Savannah Sand Gnats schedule has been released by the South Atlantic League today and will bring some new opponents to Historic Grayson Stadium. Savannah will open the '09 season on Thursday April 9 at home with a Thirsty Thursday contest against the Augusta GreenJackets.
Next year's schedule will bring some new visitors to Grayson including the new Bowling Green franchise along with the Lakewood BlueClaws and the Delmarva Shorebirds. It will be the first visit to Savannah for Lakewood or Delmarva since 2003.
The season will feature 11 Thirsty Thursday games along with 12 Fireworks Friday games. With the moving of the Columbus franchise to Bowling Green, Ky., the Sand Gnats will play more home games against the Augusta GreenJackets than in years past. All in all, Savannah plays division rivals Augusta and Charleston 23 times apiece while playing Rome 22 times.
In 2009, Savannah will have home games on Easter Sunday (April 12), Cinco de Mayo (May 5), Memorial Day (May 25) and a Fireworks Friday on July 3.
The home portion of the 2009 schedule for Savannah ends on Sunday, August 30 against the Rome Braves. Savannah closes out the '09 season with a five-game series in Charleston from Sept. 3 to Sept. 7.
An on-sale date for tickets along with a promotional schedule for the 2009 season will be released in the coming months.
Savannah opens a four-game series with the Delmarva Shorebirds tonight in Salisbury, Md. The Sand Gnats return home on a Food Lion MVP Wednesday to start a five-game series with the Rome Braves. For tickets and more information, visit www.sandgnats.com or call 912.351.9150.
