Norfolk Admirals News Release
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Radek Smolenak had a goal and an assist and Ryan Craig scored 1:32 into overtime as his Norfolk Admirals (12-13-1-0) defeated the Adirondack Phantoms (9-10-2-0) 2-1 on Friday night at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia.
The Phantoms took a 1-0 lead 3:42 into the game. Ryan Dingle sent a feed from the left circle toward the net that Krys Kolanos redirected past Norfolk netminder Dustin Tokarski and into the net.
The Admirals came out of the gates firing in the second period, out-shooting the Phantoms 16-6 in the frame and tying the game at 1-1 with 2:13 remaining in the stanza. Mike Lundin sent a shot from the left point that missed the mark wide and went behind the net. Radek Smolenak found the ricochet off the end boards and stuffed a wraparound through the legs of Adirondack netminder Jonas Backlund for his third goal of the season.
Neither team dented the twine in an energetic third period, as Dustin Tokarski made ten saves for Norfolk and Johan Backlund made nine stops for Adirondack.
In overtime, Scott Jackson forced a neutral zone turnover and sent Smolenak and Ryan Craig on a two-on-one break. Smolenak sent a feed from the left circle to Craig in the right circle for a one-timer into a yawning cage 1:32 into overtime.
Dustin Tokarski (23 shots, 22 saves) earned the win. Johan Backlund (35 shots, 33 saves) was saddled with the loss.
Norfolk was 0-3 on the power play. Adirondack was 0-1.
The Admirals will now travel to Hershey to face off against the Bears tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m.
