Syracuse Crunch News Release

Binghamton, NY - The Syracuse Crunch were shut out for the third time this season and fell to the Binghamton Senators by a 5-0 count tonight at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Coliseum.

After facing off against each other twice in the season's first three weeks, the Crunch and Binghamton quickly became re-acquainted with one another.

The Senators struck first in front of their home crowd 4:17 into the first frame when Geoff Kinrade's wrister from the right point was re-directed by Josh Hennessy past a helpless Dan LaCosta to give Binghamton a 1-0 advantage.

Jon Mirasty tried giving his team a spark on the ensuing face-off by battling it out with fellow Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan native Jeremy Yablonski, but the Crunch couldn't respond.

Just two minutes later, Crunch left wing Kevin Harvey took a penalty for elbowing and was given an additional two minutes for unsportsmanlike conduct, giving Binghamton a four-minute 5-on-4 advantage.

Syracuse was able to kill off the double-minor as the period ended with the Crunch in a 1-0 hole.

Binghamton extended its lead to 2-0 just over seven minutes into the second stanza with a power play goal from Kaspars Daugavins.

Daugavins' shot was initially stopped by LaCosta in the crease, but the Riga, Latvia native was able to push the disk over the goal line for the two-tally edge.

The Senators went up 3-0 just 1:04 into the third period while shorthanded. Cody Bass skated in down the right wing and flicked a shot on net that fooled LaCosta, went off the crossbar and into the back of the net.

Binghamton kept pouring it on as it didn't get any better for the Crunch just under two minutes later when Jim O'Brien found the puck at the left point, turned and sent a wrister sailing to the net that eluded LaCosta to make it 4-0.

Max Gratchev made it 5-0 by adding his first goal of the season, beating LaCosta with a shot through the five-hole at the 16:43 mark.
