Manitoba Moose News Release

The Manitoba Moose gave up a season-high seven goals last night in a 7-1 loss to the Peoria Rivermen at the Carver Arena. Brian Salcido scored Manitoba's only goal while goaltenders Cory Schneider and Daren Machesney both saw ice time in the loss.

Manitoba earned the first man-advantage of the night when Lars Eller was put away for holding at 4:45. Despite testing Ben Bishop three times, the Moose couldn't capitalize and went zero-for-one on the powerplay.

On a rare six-on-five delayed penalty situation, the Rivermen opened the scoring. With a scramble of players in front of Schneider's crease, Derek Armstrong jammed the puck behind the goal-line to take a 1-0 lead at 9:32.

Peoria collected a second goal when Aaron Palushaj‘s initial shot was stopped by Schneider's right goal post, but Lars Eller slapped the loose rebound into the vacant back door at 15:47.

Mark McCutcheon was penalized for holding in the opening minutes of the second stanza, but Manitoba's penalty killers were sharp and denied all opposing opportunities. Five-on-five hockey paid off for the home team at 6:54. A defensive turnover in the Manitoba zone allowed Barry Tallackson to go one-on-one with Schneider to put his club up by three.

Just after the midway point of the game, the Rivermen earned their fourth unanswered goal of the night on their 17th shot. With a play set up by Lars Eller, Julian Talbot hit the back of the net with a wrist shot for a 4-0 lead.

Brian Salcido was sent to the sin bin for slashing at 14:58. The Rivermen extended their lead on the powerplay when Aaron Palushaj tipped a rebound in between Schneider's legs for a 5-goal lead.

The Moose opted to switch goaltenders in the third period, putting Daren Machesney in between the pipes. A mere 3:48 into the third period, Anthony Paluso batted the puck out of mid-air to top it over Machesney, 6-0.

Manitoba finally broke their goose-egg at on the powerplay at 8:30. Brain Salcido sniped the puck under Bishop's shoulder to erase any shutout possibility for Peoria, 6-1. The Rivermen answered right back, however, when Ryan Reaves completed Derek Armstrong's initial slap shot, 7-1.
