December 4, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Houston Aeros News Release
SAN ANTONIO, TX - RW Jean-Michel Daoust scored twice and C Chad Rau recorded two helpers, but it wasn't enough as the Houston Aeros (12-11-2-1) fell 3-2 in overtime to Lone Star rival San Antonio Rampage (9-10-2-1) in front of 4,546 at the AT&T Center. G Anton Khudobin (9-6-1) had 20 saves in his second overtime loss of the season while G Josh Tordjman (4-5-0) stopped 34 of 36 shots faced to earn the victory.
The Rampage jumped on top 13:31 into the game off the stick of LW Jeff Hoggan. The power play goal was San Antonio's first opening frame tally this season against the Aeros. Houston out-shot the Rampage 11-6 and went 0-for-2 on the man advantage in the first period.
The Aeros opened the second period with another pair of power play opportunities only to come up empty handed. However, late in the period, Daoust put the Aeros on the board at 17:36 when he tipped home a left circle bid from Rau. C Andy Hilbert was also credited with an assist, his third since returning to the lineup yesterday against the Rampage.
San Antonio recaptured the lead when MacLean netted his 11th of the year and fifth against Houston at the 1:56 mark of the third period. Daoust knotted the game back up when he took a backhand feed from Rau and put into a wide open net for his team-leading eighth goal of the year. Daoust has notched a point in nine of his last 11 games extending his point-streak to five. Rau also extended his point-streak to four games with his two helpers. Both players now have two multi-point games on the season.
Neither team managed to score for the remainder of regulation sending the game to overtime. After the Aeros killed an overlapping penalty, the Rampage tallied the game-winner off the stick of C Kevin Porter 1:38 into the extra session.
The Aeros out-shot San Antonio 36-23 and failed to convert on five power play opportunities. The Rampage went 1-for-3 on the man advantage. The Aeros have now recorded a point in each game where they've entered the final frame tied (6-0-2-1) and remain winless in games in which they've allowed a PPG (0-5-2-1).
The Aeros return to action next Friday, December 11, when they host the Peoria Rivermen. Game time is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. at Toyota Center and the first 3,000 fans receive an Aeros fleece blanket. For ticket information call 713.974.PUCK (7825).
