Rochester Americans News Release

(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Americans Vice President of Hockey Operations Ted Nolan announced today that the team has signed forward Colt King to a two-way American Hockey League contract.

"Colt has been playing extremely well up in Rapid City and he's going to fit well into the depth of our organization," said Nolan. "He's big, aggressive and an all-around competitor, as evidenced by his 12 goals in 17 games. He definitely adds to the culture of the team we are trying to build."

King, 26, makes the jump to the American Hockey League after registering 19 points (12+7) and 58 penalty minutes in 17 games this season with the Rapid City Rush of the Central Hockey League. Last season, the Calgary, Alberta, native captured career-highs in all offensive categories in goals (28), assists (40) and points (68) in 61 games with the Rocky Mountain Rage (CHL) to finish first on the team in scoring. His 168 penalty minutes were also a team-high that season.

In his professional career, the 6-foot-2, 220-pound forward has amassed 222 points (105+117) and 987 penalty minutes in 326 total games. King was a fourth-round selection (130th overall) by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2001 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

Prior to turning pro, King played five seasons (1999-04) of junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League. In 300 combined games with teams in Guelph, North Bay, Saginaw, Oshawa, Sault St. Marie and Sarnia, King registered 168 points (80+88) with 589 penalty minutes.

The Amerks remain on the road as they head to Canada's western coast for a pair of encounters with the Abbotsford Heat on Saturday, December 5th and Sunday, December 6th. The games will mark the first-ever meetings between Rochester and Abbotsford, one of three new expansion teams in the AHL. Opening faceoff for both contests are scheduled for 9:00 p.m. EST starts at the Abbotsford Entertainment & Sports Centre and will be broadcast live on SportsRadio 1280 WHTK and FM 107.3, Rochester's Sports Talk.
