IT'S A MARATHON: The Rochester Red Wings dropped the second game of their series against the Buffalo Bisons, 5-4, in 12 innings...the game marked the longest Rochester had played this season (3:58) and featured nine-straight hitless innings by Wings pitchers...1B TRAVIS BLANKENHORN collected his fourth-straight multi-hit game as one of three Wings' batters to nab multi-hit performances...RF BLAKE RUTHERFORD and DH DREW MILLAS extended their on-base streaks in the loss to 12 and 14 games, respectively, while RHP JOSÉ UREÑA worked his fifth outing of at least 5.0 innings in his last six starts...RHP JOAN ADON starts for Rochester tonight against RHP HAGEN DANNER.
TICK TOCK ON THE CLOCK: Last night's 12-inning contest clocked in at 3:58, marking the longest game this season, and longest since 5/22/21 against SWB (4:06)...
This was the Wings' longest game against Buffalo since 4/26/16, which clocked in at 4:34 in 14 innings, a game in which Rochester won on the road.
SICKO MODE: 1B TRAVIS BLANKENHORN recorded one of Rochester's three multi-hit performances in his 3-for-5 night, marking his fourth-straight game collecting with two or more knocks (.571, 8-for-14 since 7/3-G1)...the lefty's RBI single tied him for the team-lead in that category with 3B JAKE ALU (39)...
This was the first time in Blankenhorn's career that he's recorded four-straight multi-hit games.
HIP HIP, JOSE: RHP JOSE UREÑA worked 5.0 innings in the loss, allowing just two earned on five hits while striking out two...the Dominican Republic native has now logged at least 5.0 innings in five of his last six starts...
His five hits marked the second-fewest Ureña has allowed in a start in which he went at least 5.0 innings with the Wings this season.
RUN RICHIE RUN: SS RICHIE MARTIN stole his team-leading 20th base in the second inning of Wednesday's loss...the swiped bag marked his first since 6/28 against LHV...Martin is now tied for eighth in the International League in stolen bases.
DEALIN' DANNY: RHP DANIEL MENGDEN made his Rochester debut last night, working two perfect innings of relief while striking out two batters...the appearance marked Mengden's second scoreless outing this season and first scoreless relief appearance since 8/11/22 against TOL, with OMA...Mengden has now struck out multiple batters in five of his seven outing this season (between OMA and Rochester).
BUILT RUTHER(FORD) TOUGH: RF BLAKE RUTHERFORD extended his on-base streak to 12 games (since 6/17) after going 1-for-5 at the plate...Rutherford's streak, which began when he was transferred to Rochester on 6/16, ranks second among Rochester's active on-base streaks, two games behind team-leader DH DREW MILLAS (14)...
Since the start of his streak, Rutherford is hitting .356 (16-for-45) with four home runs, a double, and 11 RBI.
BULLY-PEN: Rochester's bullpen combined to work 7.0 innings in relief of RHP JOSÉ UREÑA, combining just one earned and striking out a total of three batters...Rochester did not allow a home run to Buffalo across 12 innings of work, marking the second extra inning game this season that Wings pitchers didn't give up a homer (first on 6/2 against SYR).
Through 14 games against the Bisons this season, the bullpen has posted a 2.69 ERA (24 ER/73.2 IP), while starters have posted a 9.63 ERA (56 ER/52.1 IP).
TWO IS BETTER THAN ONE: After the Wings collected three doubles in last night's loss, Rochester is now tied with BUF for the eighth-most two-baggers in the International League...through five games in July, Rochester hitters have knocked 14 doubles, tied for the third-most in the IL over that span and mark the most doubles in the first five games of a month since August 2019 (14).
