Hens Hit Season High Five Homers in Loss
July 6, 2023 - International League (IL)
Toledo Mud Hens News Release
The Toledo Mud Hens lost Thursday night to the Louisville Bats 9-5. The Mud Hens are now 4-5 in the second half and 37-46 overall.
Brenan Hanifee started the game for Toledo and ran into trouble early. He gave up solo home runs in the first and second innings, and gave up five more runs in the third inning before being replaced by Rony Garcia. Garcia pitched 2.0 innings and gave up one run in the fourth inning, at which point the Bats had an 8-2 lead.
Corey Joyce and Parker Meadows got the Hens on the board in the bottom of the third inning with back-to-back home runs. It was the first time the Hens went back-to-back since June 13th of this year when Parker Meadows and Justyn-Henry Malloy did it against Lehigh Valley.
Donny Sands, Riley Greene, and Corey Joyce (again) would homer in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings respectively. The Mud Hens five home runs tonight set a new season high, beating the previous mark of four home runs set on April 13th. Greene, Sands, and Joyce combined for four home runs tonight, yet coming into this game had a combined three home runs all year at the AAA level. Meadows' home run was his 12th of the year.
The Hens completely flipped the script on offense from the previous night. In last night's 9-4 Hens victory, they tallied 15 hits, 12 of which were singles. In tonight's 9-5 loss, they tallied nine hits, only two of which were singles.
Tonight's loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Hens. They'll play the Bats again tomorrow night at 7:05 P.M. right here at Fifth Third Field.
Notables:
Corey Joyce: 2-3, 2 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB
