Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA. - Despite a three-run first inning and three scoreless frames from starter James McArthur, the Omaha Storm Chasers dropped a third straight game to the Gwinnett Stripers, losing 9-6 on Thursday at Coolray Field.

Making the spot start, McArthur carved through the Gwinnett lineup to open the game, allowing just a pair of singles in the second inning with five strikeouts of his nine outs recorded.

McArthur got early run support in the first, as Samad Taylor doubled to open the game, scored on a Logan Porter sacrifice fly then Nate Eaton delivered a two-run homer that also plated John Rave for an early 3-0 lead.

As soon as the game turned to Omaha's bullpen, the night unraveled as it took the combination of lefties Christian Chamberlain and Evan Sisk to pitch the fourth. The two combined to allow six runs on five walks and one hit - a go-ahead grand slam from Stripers first baseman Joshua Fuentes that put Gwinnett ahead at the time, 6-3.

Omaha inched a run closer in the fifth with a sacrifice fly from Taylor, then added two in the sixth as Tucker Bradley tripled and scored on a two-run homer from Tyler Gentry that at the time brought the Chasers within one, 7-6.

The night's originally scheduled starter Max Castillo took over in the fifth and finished the game off, allowing three runs on a pair of homers in the fifth and seventh innings, otherwise keeping Gwinnett off the board. He retired eight straight after a home run to his first batter and struck out four over 4.0 innings, on just 59 pitches.

The two-run homer Castillo allowed in the seventh put the Stripers up by three and that deficit for Omaha continued into the ninth inning. A walk to Gentry and single by Clay Dungan brought the tying run to the plate with one out but Omaha couldn't get another run across and fell for the fifth straight game and third consecutive ballgame to Gwinnett, 9-6.

The Storm Chasers will try and bounce back Friday at 6:05 p.m. CT as left-hander Cole Ragans starts for Omaha.
