Durham Bulls News Release
DURHAM, NC - Bulls third baseman Osleivis Basabe recorded three hits, including two doubles, and drove in two runs, and shortstop Tristan Gray recorded two RBI, while reliever Trevor Brigden fired three perfect innings of relief with five strikeouts in Durham's 6-4 win over the Norfolk Tides on Thursday night at Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
Basabe got the Bulls on the board in the opening frame with an RBI double to the center field wall. The Tides would then even the contest with a run in the third before plating two tallies in fourth to grab a 3-1 advantage, however Durham answered back with three scores in the last of the fourth thanks to Gray's two-run single and a sacrifice fly from C Blake Hunt. CF Greg Jones would then extend the margin to 5-3 with a run-scoring double to right in the fifth before Basabe added additional insurance with his second RBI double of the night in the sixth.
In addition to Basabe's (3-5, 1 R, 2 2B, 2 RBI) game-high three knocks, DH Ben Gamel (2-4, 1 R, 1 BB) and RF Kameron Misner (2-2, 2 BB) posted multi-hit efforts in the win. No Tides batters tallied more than one hit.
Durham starter Cooper Criswell (5.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 7 SO) earned the victory, with Brigden (3.0 IP, 5 SO) setting down all nine batters he faced in his three perfect frames of support, while righty Josh Roberson (1.0 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 2 SO) notched his third save. Tides starter Justin Armbruester (4.2 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 6 SO) suffered the defeat.
The two teams are set to face off again on Friday night, with first pitch scheduled for 6:35pm. The Bulls' starting pitcher has not yet been announced, while Norfolk is expected to give the ball to RHP Garrett Stallings. Tickets for that game and all 2023 Durham Bulls home games are available, and can be purchased at DurhamBulls.com, or by calling 919.956.BULL.
