Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
CHARLOTTE - Jacksonville starter Ronald Bolaños fired 6.0 scoreless innings and both Peyton Burdick and Paul McIntosh homered on Thursday to lead the Jumbo Shrimp to their first shutout victory of the season, a 6-0 triumph over the Charlotte Knights from Truist Field.
Bolaños (3-8) scattered four hits in his 6.0 frames, striking out six against only one walk. Zack Leban pitched 2.0 scoreless innings before Richard Rodriguez tossed just six pitches in a perfect ninth for Jacksonville (38-45, 6-3) to pick up their first shutout of 2023.
Burdick got the scoring started with a solo shot in the second.
The score remained 1-0 until the fifth, when Charlotte (36-47, 1-7) starter Garrett Davila (2-4) began to falter. He walked Charles Leblanc to begin the inning, and after a fielder's choice ground out, Santiago Chavez lashed an RBI double. Following an error, Jacob Amaya's RBI ground out made it 3-0.
The Jumbo Shrimp added a pair in the sixth. McIntosh homered with one out. Jerar Encarnacion followed with a base hit before advancing to second on a ground out. He scored on a double from C.J. Hinojosa.
A two-out rally brought home the game's final run in the eighth. A Chavez walk, Jake Mangum single and Amaya walk loaded the bases for Xavier Edwards, whose infield single plated Chavez to make it 6-0. Edwards had three hits in the effort.
Jacksonville goes for a series win with Friday's 7:04 p.m. contest. LHP Enmanuel De Jesus (2-3, 4.91 ERA) starts for the Jumbo Shrimp against Knights LHP Nate Fisher (5-8, 5.06 ERA). Coverage begins at 6:49 p.m. on ESPN 690 and www.ESPN690.com.
