San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO (April 11, 2015) - The San Antonio Rampage (45-21-6-1) dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to the Grand Rapids Griffins 2-1 in front of 7,828 at the AT&T Center on Saturday night.
The Rampage remain in the top spot in the Western Conference with 97 points, one point ahead of the Griffins and the Utica Comets.
Corban Knight broke a scoreless tie on the power play near the midway point of the third period, tapping in a rebound off a shot from Dany Heatley. With the secondary assist on the marker, Garrett Wilson extended his point streak to three games.
The Griffins evened the score with just 49 seconds remaining in regulation, as Jeff Hoggan punched the puck past Sam Brittain, who recorded a shutout in Friday night's contest and held the Griffins off the scoresheet for 59:11 before Hoggan's tally. That sent the game to overtime for the 22nd time this season for the Silver and Black.
Andy Miele wristed the puck to the top right corner with 3:16 remaining in the extra frame to secure a 2-1 win for Grand Rapids.
Brittain finished with 40 saves on 42 shots, and the Rampage were 1-for-5 on the power play while holding Grand Rapids scoreless on three opportunities with the man advantage.
QUOTABLE
"He's a big reason why we got the point tonight. This time of year you take every point you can get. Sam's got a lot to be proud of. He's come in and lifted us up just like Michael Houser did when Dan Ellis got called up to Florida." - Rampage coach Tom Rowe
LINEUP NOTES
San Antonio's lines remained unchanged from Friday night's win over Grand Rapids. Sam Brittain made his fourth AHL start with Dan Ellis, who was reassigned to San Antonio on Thursday, yet to arrive in San Antonio due to flu-like symptoms.
UP NEXT
The Rampage wrap up the season with three-game series against the Texas Stars beginning on Tuesday, April 14 at 7 p.m. at the AT&T Center. Rampage playoff tickets are now on sale and can be purchased by calling a Rampage representative at 210-444-5554 or online at sarampage.com .
