Monarchs Lock up Top Seed in 5-3 Win

BRIDGEPORT, CT - The Monarchs scored the first three goals of the game and held on for a 5-3 win over the Sound Tigers at the Webster Bank Arena on Saturday night.
The win along with Hershey's loss at St. John's tonight guaranteed Manchester the Eastern Conference's top seed in the Calder Cup Playoffs.
Manchester (47-16-6-3) is undefeated in three games against Bridgeport (27-37-7-1) this season. The Monarchs have won five of their last six games overall beginning on Mar. 29, earning at least one point in each of those games.
Andrew Crescenzi scored twice, including an empty-net goal. It marked the first multi-goal game of his AHL career.
Colin Miller gave the Monarchs a 1-0 lead 9:12 into the game when he scored on a wrist shot from the point. It was Miller's 18th goal of the season, most among Manchester defensemen.
Nick Ebert scored his eighth goal of the season at 15:34 in the opening period to make the score 2-0. It was his second goal in as many games, marking the second time this season he scored in consecutive games (also, Dec. 26-27).
Manchester took a 3-0 lead when Crescenzi buried a power-play goal at 14:10 in the second. It was his sixth goal of the season overall and second power-play goal.
Griffin Reinhart put Bridgeport on the board at 8:49 in the third period. The Sound Tigers cut the deficit to one when Alan Quine scored at 12:48 in the third.
Zach O'Brien's 14th goal of the season gave Manchester a 4-2 advantage at 14:29 in the third.
The Sound Tigers cut the lead to one again thanks to a goal from Kael Mouillierat at 16:19. It was his 23rd goal of the season.
Crescenzi capped the game off with an empty-net strike at 18:52 in the third.
The Monarchs close out the weekend with a 3 p.m. game against the Sound Tigers tomorrow. They will return to the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night when they host Portland
Notes:
Colin Miller (goal, assist) collected his 12th multi-point game of the season. Andrew Crescenzi has four points (3 goals, assist) over his last three games. Michael Mersch snapped his career-long seven-game point streak tonight. Paul Bissonnette and Brett Gallant were both ejected at 13:49 in the second period with game misconduct penalties due to two fighting majors.
