Syracuse Crunch News Release

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - T.J. Tynan scored twice and Scott Munroe stopped 28 shots as the Springfield Falcons defeated the Syracuse Crunch, 3-1, Saturday night at the War Memorial Arena. Adam Wilcox made his professional debut in goal for Syracuse (41-22-9-0) and made 27 saves. The setback coupled with a Hartford win leaves the Crunch two points ahead of the Wolf Pack for the Northeast Division lead with four games remaining.

Syracuse had a flurry of chances in the opening stages of the game, but didn't solve Munroe until a power-play chance halfway through the first. Dylan Blujus converted on a center-point slap shot at 11:21, his third of the season and first since Jan. 30. Of the rookie's 21 points, nine (2g, 7a) have come on the power play. Helpers went to Ryan Martindale and Yanni Gourde.

Springfield responded with two goals later in the first to take a 2-1 lead. Tynan scored the first goal, sneaking the puck over Wilcox' glove, off a feed from Rick Pinkston. The assist was Pinkston's first professional point in his fifth game. Josh Anderson potted the Falcons' second goal off helpers from Sonny Milano and Frederic St. Denis..

Springfield started the second with a surge, but Adam Wilcox saved several Falcon chances at close range. The South St. Paul, Minn. native posted a 2.42 goals against average and a .912 save percentage in 38 games with the University of Minnesota this year and joined the Crunch last week.

Defenseman Bryant Molle made his AHL debut for the Crunch. The Alaska-Fairbanks alum signed a pro tryout deal with Syracuse earlier in the day, having played 70 ECHL games for the Reading Royals.

The Falcons extended their lead on the power play 12:05 into the second, as Tynan received a feed from Sonny Milano at the right edge of the crease and fired the puck into a yawning net amid a goal-mount scramble. Tynan's second goal of the night and 13th of the season gave Springfield a 3-1 lead after two periods. Syracuse has allowed eight power-play goals on 19 opposing chances in its last five games.

The Crunch picked up the play in the third, outshooting the Falcons, 11-5, and creating numerous chances throughout the frame. Scott Munroe would not yield and secured his third victory in his last five starts. He had not started against the Crunch this season before tonight.

Jonathan Marchessault, who was recalled by Tampa Bay earlier today, recorded his first NHL goal and assist in his fourth NHL game as the Lightning finished their regular season with a 3-2 shootout victory vs. Boston.

Syracuse visits Utica 3 p.m. Sunday. The Crunch are 3-2-0-0 against the Comets this season.
