OKC Shut out in Iowa, 4-0
April 11, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Oklahoma City Barons News Release
DES MOINES, Iowa - John Curry stopped all 28 shots he faced as the Iowa Wild blanked the Oklahoma City Barons 4-0 Friday night at Wells Fargo Arena. Curry's shutout was his second in three starts.
Allowing all four Iowa goals, Oklahoma City net minder Richard Bachman made his first start for the Barons since Feb. 7, when he surrendered five goals in a 5-3 loss to the San Antonio Rampage.
Holding at 84 standings points with the loss, the Barons remain in sixth place in the AHL's Western Conference and third in the West Division.
Iowa took a 1-0 lead just 39 seconds into the game when Zack Mitchell grabbed a loose puck near the Barons zone for a breakaway opportunity and skidded the puck past Bachman.
At 2:45 of the first, the Wild extended their lead to 2-0 when Stu Bickel shuffled a centering pass to the left side of the OKC net, where Brett Sutter flipped the puck past a scrambling Bachman.
On the power play stemming from a slashing penalty to the Barons' C.J. Stretch, the Wild increased their lead to 3-0 at 16:27 of the first, when Jonathon Blum fired a slap shot from the right circle that caromed off both goal posts before bouncing off Bachman's back and into the OKC net.
After more than 40 minutes of scoreless play, Iowa scored their fourth goal at 18:15 of the third period, when Michael Keranen netted the puck from point-blank range off the rebound of an Olivier Archambault shot.
The Barons next travel to Rosemont, Ill., where they face the Chicago Wolves on Saturday, April 11, in a 7 p.m. start at Allstate Arena.
