Syracuse, N.Y. - The Springfield Falcons stomped the Syracuse Crunch, 3-1, tonight at the War Memorial Arena.
T.J. Tynan recorded his first two-goal performance of the season, while Sonny Milano picked up the first two-point game of his professional career.
The victory kept the Falcons' playoff hopes alive, moving them to 37-28-8-1 on the season with 83 points. The Falcons also won the eight-game season series with the Crunch, posting a 5-3-0-0 record.
Falcons goaltender Scott Munroe earned the win, stopping 28-of-29 shots. Crunch goaltender Adam Wilcox allowed three goals on 30 shots. Springfield was able to take advantage of one-of-four power play opportunities. The team stopped three-of-four Syracuse man-advantages.
With a four-on-three advantage, the Crunch were first to strike at the 11:21 mark of the opening period. Yanni Gourde started the play down in the corner. He sauced one to Ryan Martindale at the right point. A cross-slot pass set Dylan Blujus up for a one-timer and his third of the season.
The Falcons responded less than three minutes later. Tynan wound up for a slap shot from the high slot and netted it top shelf to even the score, 1-1. Rick Pinkston posted his first professional point with the assist. Trent Vogelhuber tallied the secondary helper.
Springfield took over the lead with 1:59 remaining in the first frame. With a Falcons screen in front of Wilcox, Josh Anderson beat the goaltender off assists from Milano and Frederic St. Denis.
Tynan notched his second of the game while on the power play to build up a two-goal lead for the Falcons at the 12:05 mark of the second period. After a series of shots on goal, Wilcox was pulled to the far post. Sean Collins wrapped around the cage and passed out to Tynan for a one-timer from the bottom of the right circle. Milano tallied the secondary assist.
Springfield held onto their 3-1 lead through the third period to take their fifth victory over Syracuse this season.
