Four goals in the second period led the Lake Erie Monsters (32-28-8-4) to a 5-2 win over the Adirondack Flames (34-30-6-2) Saturday night at the Glens Falls Civic Center in Glens Falls, New York. Troy Bourke, Colin Smith, Tomas Vincour, Kenny Ryan, and Andrew Agozzino scored for the Monsters in the win, while Calvin Pickard stopped 47 shots in net. With the win, the Monsters are five points behind the Toronto Marlies, who currently own the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Monsters have four games remaining. The Monsters and Flames conclude their two-game weekend set with a 5:00 p.m. game tomorrow in Glens Falls. Tomorrow's game can be heard live on ESPN 850 WKNR.

Troy Bourke opened the scoring for the Monsters when he ripped a shot from the high slot top-shelf past the glove hand of Adirondack goalie Brad Thiessen, giving the Monsters a 1-0 lead at 6:06 of the second period, with assists to Tomas Vincour and Colin Smith. Bourke's goal jumpstarted a second-period offensive outburst, as Smith then scored the second of the Monsters four second period tallies. Pulling a loose puck from the faceoff circle on the right side, Smith darted to the net and chipped a backhand past Thiessen to give the Monsters a 2-0 lead at 15:03 of the second period. Smith's goal was his 12th of the season.

Vincour was the next Monster to score, boosting the lead to 3-0 on a rebound from the left circle. Vincour's power play goal was his seventh goal of the season and second in as many games, and was scored at 18:05 of the third period. Vincour's goal was assisted by Andrew Agozzino and Ben Street. Kenny Ryan capped off the Monsters second period scoring, stretching the lead to 4-0 when he converted on a shorthanded breakaway at 19:25 of the third period. Monsters goalie Calvin Pickard assisted on Ryan's goal, as his clearing of the puck sent Ryan up the left wing and into the offensive end.

Adirondack pulled to within 4-1 on a Bill Arnold goal at 3:29 of the third period, but Agozzino regained the four-goal lead for the Monsters when Stefan Elliott put a puck to the net, and Agozzino tapped it over the line to make it 5-1 for the Monsters. Agozzino's goal was his team-leading 28th of the campaign, and was also assisted by Ben Youds.

Adirondack's Kenney Morrison scored a power play goal on a point shot through traffic at 15:06 of the third period to cut the Monsters lead to 5-2, but the Monsters shut down the Flames attack the rest of the way.

Pickard stopped 47 of 49 shots to improve to 20-16-9 on the season. Thiessen took the loss in net, stopping 18 of 22 Monsters shots in two periods before he was relieved by Doug Carr at the start of the third period. Carr finished the game by stopping eight of nine Monsters shots. Thiessen's record in net is 10-15-7 after the loss.

The Monsters and Flames meet tomorrow in Glens Falls at 5:00 p.m., with all the action airing live on ESPN 850 WKNR.
