Admirals' Playoff Hopes Take a Hit
April 11, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Milwaukee, WI--The Admirals allowed four third period goals and saw their playoff hopes take a huge hit as they fell 4-1 to the Chicago Wolves on Friday night.
Couple the loss with a win by the Toronto Marlies over Rochester and the Ads are now tied with Toronto for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference and they have played three fewer games than Toronto.
Milwaukee does go head-to-head with the Marlies next Friday night in a must-win game.
The Admirals took an early lead when recently named AHL All-Rookie team member Viktor Arvidsson cashed in on his 20th goal of the season at 8:59 of the first. The play started when Anthony Bitetto made a nice play to keep the puck in the Wolves zone, chipping it ahead to Arvidsson, took a couple of strides and fired a wrister that beat Chicago goalie Jordan Binnington over his right shoulder.
Despite a combined 28 shots, including 20 by the Admirals, and multiple power-play opportunities for both teams their team found the back of the net in the second period and the Ads brought their 1-0 lead into the third period.
However, powerplay goals the Wolves Jacob Doty at 2:20 and Shane Harper at 10:40 put Chicago ahead 2-1.
Then Harper sealed it for Chicago with just 2:25 left in the game when he scored on an odd-man rush.
An Adam Cracknell empty netter finished the scoring and gave the Wolves the victory.
The Admirals are off until next Friday when they play host to Toronto in the final home game of the regular season.
