Utah Grizzlies News Release
West Valley City, Utah - The Ontario Reign defeated the Utah Grizzlies (28-23-4-2) 3-2 in regulation Friday night at Maverik Center before 6,508 fans.
"We have to earn it and we have to work hard for our bounces," said Grizzlies Head Coach Kevin Colley. "We need to grind out a one-goal game win and it's all garbage goals, is how you come out of it."
Utah took a 1-0 lead just 1:20 into the first period as Kevin Deeth centered Tom May (12) on a three-on-two that Matt Clarke worked up ice. The Reign left the first period with a 2-1 lead after scoring off of two Utah turnovers.
The Grizzlies totaled a season-high 25 shots in the second period, but were unable to bury a goal and tie.
Utah scored just 44 seconds into the third period as Simon Ferguson steered a puck in front of the net that was knocked in by Hugo Carpentier (12). Kevin Deeth picked up his second assist on the play.
Ontario was then awarded three-straight power-plays and threw a puck through traffic for the game-winner with 7:51 left in regulation.
The Grizzlies and Reign meet again Saturday as Utah continues their season-long six-game home stand. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
