
Wranglers Drop to Steelheads, 4-2

Las Vegas, Nev- The Las Vegas Wranglers ® were defeated by the Idaho Steelheads Friday night at Qwest Arena. Forward Josh Lunden netted both goals for Las Vegas, one coming on the power play. Marty Flichel had two goals for the Steelheads followed by Mark Derlago and Evan Barlow who each had one goal apiece. Goaltender Adrien Lemay made 38 saves on 40 Wranglers' shots to earn the win for Idaho and increase his overall record to 4-0-0. Michael Ouzas slides to 15-11-2 while making 29 saves on 32 Steelheads' shots. Both teams had four power play opportunities, Las Vegas netted once, Idaho twice. With the win Idaho improves to 28-18-12 on the season and continues on a six-game point streak. The Wranglers slide to 33-19-5 and come off their three-game point streak but still hold the top spot in the Pacific division and Western conference.
Friday night's regulation win by the Steelheads is the first time this season against the Wranglers. Las Vegas now holds a 4-1-1 record this season against Idaho. The Steelheads started Friday night though with a power play goal from the third star of the night Marty Flichel. At 11:39 of the first period Flichel netted his eighteenth goal of the season assisted by Mark Derlago and Weston Tardy to give the Steelheads a 1-0 lead going into the first intermission. Las Vegas outshot Idaho 12-9 in the first period.
Josh Lunden tied the game at the 5:19 mark of the second period with is first goal of the night assisted by Colin Long and Kevin Schaeffer. The first star of the night, Mark Derlago, took the lead back for Idaho at 6:08 of the second period with his team leading twenty-eighth goal of the season unassisted. Once again Josh Lunden had the answer for the Wranglers and tied the game at two. He netted his fourth goal of the season at the 10:24 mark assisted by Aaron Power and Justin Bernhardt, this time while the Wranglers were on the power play. Marty Flichel extended the lead for Idaho at 13:57 of the second period with his second goal of the night assisted by Mark Derlago and Dustin Friesen while the Steelheads were on the power play. After two periods Idaho was on top 3-2 but had been outshot 26-21.
Late in the third period Evan Barlow netted his fifteenth goal of the season for Idaho while the Wranglers' net was empty for the extra skater. Idaho would eventually hold on to get the regulation win, 4-2.
The same two teams play again tomorrow night at Qwest Arena. The puck drops at 6:10 PM PST. After Saturday's game the Wranglers head to Ontario for a two-game set next weekend beginning on March 11th.
