West Valley City, Utah - The Ontario Reign, proud affiliate of the NHL's Los Angeles Kings, beat the Utah Grizzlies 3-2 before a crowd of 6,508 at Maverick Center Friday night.
The Grizzlies wasted no time getting on the board, as Tom May scored just 1:20 into the contest. Ontario went up 2-1 on Utah turnovers. The Grizzlies failed to clear the zone and C.J. Stretch's tallied his sixth goal with a well-placed shot at 3:39. Jordan Morrison intercepted a Utah pass and pushed the puck ahead to Alex Bourret who let loose with a blistering slap shot from the top of the left circle for his seventh goal of the season at 14:44.
After a scoreless second period, Hugo Carpentier tied the game at two just 44 seconds into frame three. Beau Erickson had made 35 saves when a diving Grizzlies player collided with him and Mike Zacharias entered the game in relief. Jordan Hill grabbed the lead back for the Reign with a power-play goal at 12:09 and Ontario went on to defeat the grizzlies, 3-2.
Erickson and Zacharias combined for 41 saves in the victory and Shane Connelly had 21 saves in the loss. Zacharias was credited for the win.
