TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: After dropping a nail-biter at WesBanco Arena last night, the Cyclones return to U.S. Bank Arena for the fourth-to-last time this season as they welcome in the Toledo Walleye. The I-75 rivals are neck and neck in the Eastern Conference and North Division standings, with just three points separating the clubs. Cincinnati has split ten meetings thus far with the "Fish" but did dominate the most recent bout by a 5-1 final score back on February 18. Not surprisingly, the teams are also nearly even in every statistical category during this season series - including goals for/against, power play chances, and shots on goal.
TONIGHT'S PROMOTION: Kids Jersey T-Shirt Night - The first 2,500 fans ages 2-12 through the gates will receive a Kevin Roeder Kids Jersey T-Shirt courtesy of Sun Drop.
SCOUTING THE WALLEYE: Toledo relinquished a two goal lead in the final period last night against Kalamazoo and fell to the Wings 4-3 at the Huntington Center. With the loss, the Walleye remain three points back of the Cyclones, Jackals, and Gladiators for the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference Standings. With the continued absence of Zack Torquato (who is playing in the AHL), Andy Bombach has solidified himself atop the Walleye's scoring list, posting points in six of his last eight games. Tyler Doig and Kyle Rogers have each found offensive success against Cincinnati, each earning 11 points. Goaltending-wise, Thomas McCollum has returned from the AHL and owns a 5-5-0 record with a 3.01 goals-against average. He has started each of Toledo's last six games.
A Month to Remember: Forward Dustin Sproat wrapped up an extremely solid month of February. A nominee for ECHL Player of the Month, Sproat finished with six goals and three assists in nine games. In fact he has now registered a point in nine of his last eleven. Last night he played in his 200th professional game.
Counting 'Em Down: The Cyclones are rapidly approaching the end of their 2010-11 home schedule. Including tonight, Cincy plays only four more games at U.S. Bank Arena during the regular season.
More Bonus Hockey Than Ever: This season the Cyclones have had 16 of their games decided in the extra session. In fact, it's the most "bonus hockey" that they have played in a single season since resuming ECHL play in 2006-07. This year in overtime/shootout games, the Cyclones are 7-9.
Conference Chaos: The Eastern Conference as a whole, much like the North Division is a hotly contested battle. As of tonight, just three points separate seventh from tenth place. The top eight teams from the Conference qualify for the Kelly Cup Playoffs. Cincinnati is currently tied with Gwinnett and Elmira for the seventh seed.
