Albuquerque Isotopes News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY -- George Springer drove in two runs, including the game winner in the fifth inning, as the Oklahoma City Redhawks rallied for a 4-3 victory over the Albuquerque Isotopes on Tuesday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
The Isotopes (48-38) saw their four-game winning streak end. They fell back into second place in the PCL's American Southern division, one game behind leader Round Rock.
Oklahoma City starting pitcher Asher Wojciehowski walked the first three batters to start the game. He got two outs, then Justin Sellers hit a ball into left-center field that bounced in-and-out of the glove of the diving center fielder Springer. Three runs scored to give the Topes an early lead. But that was the extent of their offense on this night.
Albuquerque starter Rob Rasmussen needed 36 pitches to get through the first inning. The Redhawks had five singles in the inning, including RBIs by Springer and Jon Singleton. After a leadoff walk in the second inning, Rasmussen retired nine in a row as he entered the fifth inning.
Robbie Grossman walked and Jonathan Villar followed with a bunt single on the first pitch. Brandon Laird ripped a double down the left-field line to tie the game. Villar scored on Springer's grounder to short for a 4-3 lead that would end up being the difference.
The Topes were held to seven hits. Wojceihowski walked six and struck out five in six innings. The trio of Eric Berger (two-thirds), Jose Valdez (1 1/3 innings) and Jose Zeid pitched scoreless relief to close out the victory. Zeid is 8-for-8 in save chances.
OkC and Albuquerque have split their 10 meetings so far this season.
The rubber game of this three-game series is Wednesday night. Blake Johnson starts for the Isotopes. Brett Oberholtzer was promoted to the majors, so Wade LeBlanc will start instead for the Redhawks. First pitch will be at 6:05 MT and can be heard on 610 "The Sports Animal" with Josh Suchon on the call.
