Three River Cats Named All-Stars
July 2, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Sacramento River Cats News Release
WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento River Cats outfielder Michael Choice, right-handed pitcher Sonny Gray, and infielder Grant Green have been chosen to represent the Pacific Coast League in the 2013 Dolan Auto Group Triple-A All-Star Game on July 17 at Aces Ballpark in Reno, Nev.
Gray will be the starting pitcher for the PCL, making him the second-consecutive River Cat to start the exhibition, as righty Graham Godfrey took the hill for the Coast League a year ago. Gray made two starts with Sacramento in 2012-one in the regular season and one in the playoffs-and currently ranks fourth in the PCL with a 3.02 ERA. Accruing a 7-5 record, Gray has made 15 starts including a complete game on May 1 against the Fresno Grizzlies, and his 98 strikeouts lead the league.
Choice, who is playing above Double-A for the first time in his career, is hitting .286 with 11 home runs, a .385 on-base percentage and a team-leading 53 RBI. His 77 games played lead the River Cats, and his 59 runs scored rank fourth in the PCL. Choice is one of three outfielders who will start for the PCL, joining Joey Butler of the Round Rock Express and Nick Buss of the Albuquerque Isotopes.
Green, who was named the 2012 River Cats Most Valuable Player, is in the midst of an 11-game hitting streak and was just named the PCL Player of the Week for the week of 6/24-30. Playing primarily second base, Green has clubbed 11 home runs to go along with 23 doubles, three triples, four steals, a .320 batting average and a .508 slugging percentage. Not only does Green have at least one hit in 11 consecutive games, but he has multiple hits in seven of his last nine, and nine of his last 13.
The 26th annual matchup will be broadcast live on MLB Network, the Armed Forces Network, and the Triple-All-Star Game Radio Network.
