Anna's Bat Helps Lift Padres
July 2, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Tucson Padres News Release
Dean Anna went 3-for-4 with two RBIs to lead the Tucson Padres to a 6-3 victory over the Sacramento River Cats Monday at Raley Field. The Padres have now won eight of their last 11 games and have a 1.5 game lead on their nearest competitor in the Southern Division.
The River Cats went ahead 1-0 in the second on Ryan Ortiz's RBI automatic double that bounced over the right-field fence. After Chris Robinson led off the Tucson third with a double, Anna brought him home with an RBI single to tie the game at one. The Padres scored four runs in the fourth, highlighted by Ben Francisco's RBI single and Brandon Allen's RBI triple, to take a 5-1 lead.
Gregorio Petit scored from second base on a wild pitch and throwing error to give Tucson a five-run advantage in the fifth. Sacramento cut the Padres lead to 6-2 in the seventh on Shane Peterson's RBI groundout. Andy Parrino's RBI single in the ninth brought around one more run for the River Cats, but Padres closer Miles Mikolas was able to record the final out to seal the win. Mikolas now has 17 saves in 2013.
Anthony Bass (2-1) earned the win for Tucson, pitching six innings, while allowing a run on six hits. The right-hander had three strikeouts and didn't walk any River Cats. Travis Banwart (4-5) took the loss after yielding six runs on nine hits in 4.1 innings of work.
Next Game: Tuesday, 7:05 p.m. at Sacramento (Athletics affiliate) - Tucson RHP Brandon Kloess (2-2, 4.37) vs. Sacramento RHP Sonny Gray (7-5, 3.02). Game coverage begins at 6:55 pm on 1290 AM The Source and tucsonpadres.com.
