Round Rock Express News Release

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Round Rock Express (48-37) took an early lead over the Nashville Sounds (30-55) and never looked back, winning game two 6-3 at Greer Stadium Tuesday night.

The Express got things started in the first, thanks to a ground rule double by right fielder, and Pacific Coast League All-Star, Joey Butler. Another all-star, Yangervis Solarte, plated Butler in the next at-bat with a single.

Round Rock added three more runs in the second inning. Third baseman Mike Olt singled to start the inning. He advanced to second on a single by first baseman Jim Adduci, putting two men on with no outs for designated hitter Mike Bianucci. The 27-year-old launched a ball over the left-field wall, his second home run in as many nights, giving the E-Train a 4-0 lead.

The Express offense wasn't done in the sixth inning, but Sounds starter Hiram Burgos was as he was lifted for Travis Webb. Center fielder Jared Hoying drew a one-out walk and scored after back-to-back singles by Adduci and Bianucci. Catcher Eli Whiteside and shortstop Leury Garcia added two more singles, scoring Adduci and loading the bases. Left fielder Aaron Cunningham struck out to end the inning.

Round Rock starter Jake Brigham threw a gem of a game, allowing just three singles before being replaced by reliever Joseph Ortiz with two outs in the seventh. He was tagged with one run and didn't walk a batter while striking out four, throwing just 82 pitches (58 strikes) en route to his second win.

Ortiz entered the game with a man on first and gave up a single to the first batter he faced, giving Nashville their first run of the night.

The Sounds threatened in the eighth with back-to-back one-out singles, but outfielder Josh Prince grounded into a double play to end the threat.

With reliever Johan Yan on the mound for the Express in the ninth, Nashville mounted a comeback. Yan gave up a lead-off single followed by back-to-back doubles to score two runs. Yan got the next three batters to ground out, strike out and ground out to end the game and tie the series at 1-1.

Nashville starter Burgos got tagged with the loss, dropping to 1-3.

Round Rock and Nashville close out the short series tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. The Express will send LHP Brad Mills (7-2, 3.78 ERA) up against Nashville's RHP Jimmy Nelson (0-2, 2.66 ERA). Round Rock returns home on Thursday, July 4 for the start of Red, White and Blue Weekend, a three-day post-game fireworks extravaganza!
