July 2, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Fresno Grizzlies News Release

FRESNO, Calif. - Brett Pill, Roger Kieschnick, and Johnny Monell have been named Pacific Coast League mid-season All-Stars, Triple-A Baseball announced today. The three Grizzlies will join 27 other top hitters and pitchers from the PCL to take on the International League All-Stars in the Dolan Auto Group Triple-A All-Star Game, set for Wednesday, July 17th at Aces Ballpark in Reno, Nevada, home of the PCL's Reno Aces.

Pill was the lone Grizzlies player elected to the All-Star team, filling in as the team's designated hitter. The 28-year-old is batting .340 (69-for-203) with 18 doubles, 12 home runs, and 62 RBI in 50 games with the Grizzlies this season. His 62 RBI are the second-most in the PCL. Pill has also made two stints with the San Francisco Giants this season, playing in 14 games with the parent club.

Kieschnick is among the PCL leaders in extra-base hits, benefitted by a career-high nine triples that are the third-most in the league. The 26-year-old is batting .261 (78-for-299) with 17 doubles, nine triples, 11 home runs, and 49 RBI in 79 games. This is Kieschnick's first PCL All-Star nomination. The Texas Tech product has also been named an All-Star in the Eastern League (2011) and California League (2009).

Monell ranks among the top of the PCL leaderboard in home runs (4th, 15) and slugging percentage (3rd, .592). Overall, the 27-year-old is batting .308 (74-for-240) with 19 doubles, 15 home runs, and 42 RBI in 68 games. Monell, who is in his first season at Triple-A, owns a .358 batting average since May 18th. The Giants' 30th round selection from the 2007 Draft was named an Eastern League All-Star in 2011.

The three All-Star nominations for the Grizzlies are the most since 1998 when they sent a franchise-record four players to the Triple-A All-Star Game. Grizzlies pitching coach Pat Rice was named to the PCL All-Star coaching staff in early June.

The 26th annual Triple-A All-Star Game will be broadcast live on MLB Network, the American Forces Network, and the Triple-A All-Star Game Radio Network.

The PCL beat the International League 3-0 in last year's Triple-A All-Star Game in Buffalo, New York. The PCL is 7-8 against the International League since Triple-A Baseball adopted the two-league format in 1998. The winner of the Triple-A All-Star Game earns the "home team" designation at the Gildan Triple-A National Championship, which will take place on Tuesday, September 17th in Allentown, Pennsylvania, home of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.
