Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev. - The Reno Aces will have three players in the 2013 Dolan Auto Group Triple-A All-Star Game, as Matt Davidson, Tuffy Gosewisch and Chris Owings have been selected to represent the Pacific Coast League in July's annual showcase.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Aces Manager Brett Butler will captain the PCL squad. Aces Athletic Trainer Joe Metz and Radio Broadcaster Ryan Radtke have also been chosen to participate in the Game.
The 2013 Triple-A All-Star Game is set for Wednesday, July 17, at Aces Ballpark in downtown Reno. The exhibition featuring the best of the PCL against the best of the International League will be broadcast live on MLB Network, the American Forces Network and the Triple-A All-Star Game Radio Network.
Davidson has shined in his first year at the Triple-A level, and has also been named a participant for the 15th annual SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game. The 22-year-old has racked up 10 home runs so far this season, tied for the lead among active Aces batters. He has a .288 batting average with 47 RBI. Entering the 2013 season, Davidson was ranked the No. 4 prospect in the D-backs organization by Baseball America and MLB.com, and was also cited by Baseball America as the Best Power Hitter in the Arizona system.
Gosewisch has had a tremendous season behind the plate, throwing out 16-of-34 (.471) would-be basestealers, the best mark among PCL catchers. He has also enjoyed success at the plate, batting .290 with 12 doubles, six home runs, and 22 RBI for Reno across 51 games. Entering his first season in the D-backs organization, Gosewisch was named the Best Defensive Catcher in the Eastern League by Baseball America following the 2010 season.
Owings has emerged as a star in his first season at the Triple-A level. Through the season's first 85 games, he leads all of professional baseball in hits (130) and ranks second in the PCL in batting average (.353). He leads all PCL batters in runs scored (69), is tied for first in total bases (179), and is ranked fifth in RBI (55). Last month, Owings became the first batter in Aces franchise history to record 40 or more hits in three consecutive months. The 21-year-old entered the season ranked the D-backs No. 6 prospect by MLB.com and No. 7 by Baseball America. He was a California League All-Star last season with Class-A Advanced Visalia.
Davidson and Owings will serve as the starting third baseman and shortstop, respectively, while Gosewisch will serve as a reserve catcher behind Tucson's Rene Rivera.
Davidson, Gosewisch, Owings and the rest of the Aces will take on the Salt Lake Bees tonight and tomorrow before hitting the road for an 11-game trip. Tickets are on-sale now at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
