Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - The Pacific Coast League announced their 2013 All-Star roster today and Colorado Springs Sky Sox third baseman Ryan Wheeler will represent the team at the annual game. The 2013 Triple-A All-Star Game will be played on Wednesday, July 17 in Reno, NV at Aces Ballpark, the home of the Reno Aces (Triple-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks). According to the Pacific Coast League, 2013 Sky Sox players Corey Dickerson, Matt McBride and Drew Pomeranz all received enough votes to be named to the All-Star team but because they are no longer active with the club could not be included on the roster. Dickerson and Pomeranz are currently in the Major Leagues with the Rockies and McBride is on the disabled list with a neck injury.

Wheeler, 24, will be making his second consecutive Triple-A All-Star appearance after being named to the team last season as a member of the Reno Aces. The Sky Sox third baseman is currently tied for the most RBI in the league among third basemen with 50 and leads the Sky Sox in that category. Wheeler currently leads the Sox in hitting at .302 (77-for-255) to go along with five homers, 14 doubles and 41 runs scored. The righty was originally drafted by Arizona in the 5th round of the 2009 draft out of Loyola Marymount University and was acquired by the Rockies prior to this season in exchange for reliever Matt Reynolds. He made his Major League debut last season with Arizona and hit .239 (26-for-109) with a homer, triple, six doubles, 11 runs scored and ten RBI in 50 games. Earlier this season, Wheeler played in six games with the Rockies and went 1-for-9 with a double in limited play.
