Aces Drop Series Opener, 7-5
July 2, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release
Reno, Nev.-Reno posted a four-run first inning, but it was not enough, as the club fell 7-5 to the Salt Lake Bees on Monday night at Aces Ballpark.
RHP Zeke Spruill worked himself out of a bases-loaded jam with two outs in the first, turning things over to the Aces offense. The first four Reno batters to the plate reached base, and Josh Wilson scored on a wild pitch to put the Aces on the board. Reno tacked on three more runs in the inning, but the commanding lead was short-lived.
Salt Lake posted three runs in both the second and fourth to take over, and did not surrender the lead. A solo homer off the bat of Mike Jacobs in the sixth scored Reno's final run of the night.
At the dish for Reno, Jacobs went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a pair of runs. Juan Rivera also recorded a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Spruill, who was charged with three runs-none earned-did not factor into the decision. LHP Eury De La Rosa was charged with the loss, giving up three runs-all earned-on three hits through 2.0 innings.
Five Aces pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts in the game.
The series continues Tuesday night at Aces Ballpark. RHP Nate Adcock (4-4, 7.14 ERA) will get the nod for Reno, while the Bees will counter with RHP A.J. Schugel (4-5, 6.43 ERA). First pitch is set for7:05 p.m.
