Player notes:

J.F. Dufour is tied for the league lead with three game-winning goals. Tyler MacKay is 16th in the ECHL with a 2.44 goals against average. Brendon Hodge is tied for seventh in the league among rookie scorers with nine points on five goals and four assists.

Team notes:

The Nailers have posted their best ten game record to start a season in franchise history at 7-2-1. The Nailers surpassed the 7-3-0 start of the 1997-98 team. The Nailers 9-1 win against the Bombers on November 9 was the largest margin of victory, and the most goals scored in a game, since a 14-2 win at home on April 2, 2000 against the Toledo Storm.

Wednesday, November 5 Wheeling 1 @ Cincinnati 4

Cincinnati took an early 1-0 lead in this game on a Jason Norrie unassisted goal. Norrie scored at 1:03 of the first period on the Cyclones first shot on goal. Brendon Hodge tied the game 1-1 for the Nailers at 5:55 of the first period. Dan Ennis and Mario Larocque assisted on the Nailers only goal of the game. The Cyclones scored a pair of second period goals to take a 3-1 lead going into the third period. Cincinnati added an empty net goal in the final minute of the game to end the scoring in their 4-1 win. Nick Boucher, making his first start as a professional, made 26 saves on 29 shots in the loss.

Saturday, November 8 Wheeling 4 @ Toledo 2

Tyler MacKay registered his first win of the season, in his first start, by beating the Toledo Storm 4-2 in Toledo. The Nailers took a 1-0 lead on an Eddie Pershin goal in the first minute of the game. Pershin's goal at :50 was assisted by Chris McNamara and T.J. Reynolds. Toledo tied the game 1-1 with a power play goal at 12:12 of the opening period. In the second period the Storm took the lead with an even strength goal at 4:55. J.C. Ruid tied the game for the Nailers with his first goal of the game at 6:46 of the second period with J.F. Dufour and Arpad Mihaly assisting. McNamara picked up his first goal of the game and second point when he gave the lead back to Wheeling with a power play goal. The goal was scored at 16:17 of the second period with Mike Lephart and Pershin assisting. Ruid scored his second goal of the game at 19:50 of the third period to end the scoring. The goal was assisted by Dufour and Steve Crampton. MacKay made 20 saves on 22 shots for the win.

Sunday, November 9 Dayton 1 @ Wheeling 9

The Nailers recorded their largest margin of victory in over three years with the 9-1 win over Dayton. The Bombers led in the game 1-0 after a goal at 10:26 of the opening period. The Nailers responded with three goals in the final 6:35 of the first period. The goals were scored by Chris McNamara, Brendon Hodge and Mike Lephart. The Nailers kept the pressure on the Bombers in the second period with three more goals to take a 6-1 lead. The Nailers second period goal scorers were J.F. Dufour, Lephart with his second of the game and Steve Crampton. Wheeling stayed consistent by scoring three more goals in the third period. Hodge and Dufour scored their second goals of the game and Arpad Mihaly added one in between their goals. Tyler MacKay made 20 saves on 21 shots for his second consecutive win.

PREVIEW OF UPCOMING NAILERS GAMES

November 10-November 16

Friday, November 14 Wheeling @ Johnstown 7:00p.m.

The Nailers travel to Johnstown for the first of nine regular season meetings and the first of two on the weekend. The Nailers are 72-41-15 all-time against the Chiefs, 4-4-0 last season.

Saturday, November 15 Reading @ Wheeling 7:30p.m.

The Nailers host the Royals for the second time this season, having beaten them 7-6 in a shootout at home on November 2. The Nailers are 2-0-0 in the first two meetings of nine during the regular season.

Sunday, November 9 Johnstown @ Wheeling 2:00p.m.

The Nailers close their weekend with their second game of the weekend against the Chiefs. It is Nailers Youth Jersey Day at WesBanco Arena with kids aged 14 and younger receiving a Nailers Youth Jersey courtesy of BB&T and WTOV-9.

Player of the Week

The Nailers Player of the Week is Jason Jaffray. Jaffray had four points on two goals and two assists. He had a goal and an assist in a 2-1 win in Reading, an assist in a 3-2 shootout loss against Toledo and a goal in a 7-6 shootout win against Reading. He also played at a +1 for the week.

Goaltender of the Week

The Nailers Goaltender of the Week is Martin Brochu. Brochu went 2-0-1 in three games over the weekend. He made 87 saves on 96 shots for a .906 save percentage. Brochu also had a goals against average for the week of 2.84. He faced ten shots in two shootouts and made seven saves.
