Colorado Eagles News Release
Windsor, CO â The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League (CHL) are 6-4-1 on the 2003-04 season. The Eagles take on the New Mexico Scorpions, November 14; face-off is set for 7:05 p.m. at the Budweiser Events Center. The Eagles leave town Saturday, November 15, to take on the Lubbock Cotton Kings at 6:05 p.m. MST. The Eagles will then travel to Fort Worth to face off with the Brahmas at 2:00 p.m. MST.

November 5 â Colorado Eagles vs Wichita Thunder EAGLES 6-5 (Shootout)
The Eagles took an early lead on defenseman's Brad Williamson's goal 2:15 into the first period, the goal was assisted by right winger Phil Crowe and forward Cam Kuzyk. The Eagles first goal was answered by the Thunder 5:54 into the first, netted by Wichita right wing Anders Strome, assisted by defensemen Ryan Olynyk and Alex Todd. The Thunder struck again 8:27 into the period when left wing Jason Duda scored a goal assisted by defenseman Peter Runkel and left winger Adam Calder. Twenty-seven seconds later (8:54) Wichita center Mark Kolesar netted a goal assisted by forward Travis Clayton, making it a 3-1 Wichita game. Minutes later, 11:19 into the period, Eagles left winger Karl's Zunis scored his third goal of he season, assisted by defenseman Jesse Cook and forward Cam Kazak. The period ended with Wichita leading 3-2 game at the end of the first period.
Eight minutes thirty eight seconds into the second period Eagles right winger Greg Pankewicz evened the score 3-3 with a goal assisted by defensemen Brent Thompson and Scott Swanson. Pankewicz struck again two minutes later (10:38) netting a goal assisted by center Riley Nelson and Williamson. The Eagles right winger's goal was rapidly answered by Thunder's right winger Strome 12:56 into the second period. Strome's goal was assisted by Runkel and center Jerry Cunningham. Seventeen minutes fifty two seconds into the period Eagles left winger Ryan Tobler scored a goal assisted by center Brad Patterson and Pankewicz. The period ended with a 5-4 Colorado Eagles lead.
The Thunder's Strome earned a hat trick 2:57 into the third taking a pass from Calder to tie the game. The game remained tied forcing the teams into the five minute overtime. Neither team scored in overtime, so the game went into a shoot out. Pankewicz netted the winning goal, earning a hat trick as well as a 6-5 Eagles victory, making the Colorado Eagles 4-4-0 on the season.
Eagles goaltender Ryan Bach saved 18 of 23 Wichita shots on goal, and his performance during the shoot out was perfect. The Colorado Eagles out shot the Wichita Thunder 31 to 23.
November 7 â Colorado Eagles vs New Mexico Scorpions EAGLES 8-2
The Eagles took an early lead only 2:30 into the period when right winger Greg Pankewicz scored the first goal of the game, the goal was assisted by defenseman Scott Swanson and left winger Ryan Tobler. Twenty four seconds later, Tobler netted another goal (2:54) assisted by Pankewicz and center Riley Nelson. The Eagles scored three more times before the first period ended. Pankewicz netted another goal at 5:40 (assisted by Tobler and Swanson); left winger Chris Low scored his first goal of the season 15:08 into the period (forward Daniel Bohac and left wing Karlis Zirnis each tallied an assist on the goal); 16:23 into the period center Riley Nelson netted a goal assisted, again, by Pankewicz. New Mexico's left winger Josh Tymchak and Eagles' defenseman Lee Ruff each served five minutes for fisticuffs 11:50 into the period. The New Mexico Scorpions never answered the Colorado Eagles goals, ending the first period with a 5-0 Eagles lead.
Six minutes ten seconds into the second period the Scorpions scored, defenseman Vladimir Hartinger netted a pass from goalie Miguel Beaudry. Colorado Eagles defenseman Jesse Cook scored a power play goal 9:39 into the period, assisted by defenseman Igor Bondarevs and former Scorpion, center, Brad Patterson. New Mexico struck again 18:21 into the period when left wing Kevin Edgar scored assisted by left wing Brian Barker and center Ben Gorewich. The second period ended with a 6-2 Eagles lead.
The Eagles took it to the Scorpions again 7:51 into the third period when Tobler netted another goal assisted by Pankewicz and Nelson. The final goal of the game was scored by the Eagles on another power play. Foward Cam Kuzyk netted the goal from defenseman Brad Williamson and Patterson. Eagles goaltender Ryan Bach saved 24 of 26 shots. The Eagles out shot the Scorpions 30 to 26. The Colorado Eagles moved to 5-4-0 on the season with 10 points.
November 8 â Colorado Eagles @ Wichita EAGLES 4-3
Wichita's defenseman Alex Todd netted the first goal of the game 8:56 into the first period. The Thunder's 1-0 lead lasted only 33 seconds, when 9:29 into the period Eagle's left winger, Ryan Tobler, scored a goal from right winger Greg Pankewicz and defenseman Lee Ruff. The first period ended even at 1-1.
The second period of play was dominated with Eagles scores. Four minutes and fifteen seconds into play Eagles defenseman Igor Bondarevs netted his first goal of the season on a power play. The goal was assisted by left wing Karlis Zirnis, and defenseman Brent Thompson. Nineteen seconds later left winger Chris Low netted his second goal in three games from center Riley Nelson and defenseman Scott Swanson. Eagles defenseman Brent Thompson netted another power play goal from Zirnis 16:05 into the second. The second period ended with a 4-1 Eagles lead.
The entire game was riddled with penalties; two in the end of the second period gave Wichita power play opportunities for almost 5 minutes (one 5 on 3 and one 5 on 4) at the beginning of the third period. The Eagles were able to kill off the first penalty, but despite their efforts Wichita's right winger Anders Strome (who had a hat trick in the last match up with the Eagles) netted a power play goal 4:33 into the third period from left wing Jason Duda and center Mark Kolesar. The score remained 4-2 until 14:41 into the third when the Thunder struck again. Kolesar scored from Duda and center Travis Clayton making it a one goal game. The Eagles defense and goal minding stayed strong for the remainder of the third period, and the game ended with a 4-3 Eagles victory.
Colorado Eagles goalie, Ryan Bach, was incredible in the net the entire night, making one unbelievable save after another. He saved 29 of 32 shots on goal for a .906 save percentage.
There were a total of 37 penalties during the game. The Colorado Eagles had 21 of the 37 penalties, with a total of 48 penalty minutes.
November 9 â Colorado Eagles @ Oklahoma City Blazers BLAZERS 1-0 (shootout)
The game ended in a scoreless tie. The Blazers goalie, Boyd Ballard, and Eagles goalie, Ryan Bach, were both perfect in regulation game time. In the third period the Eagles out shot the Blazers 16 to 3.
There was no score in the five minute overtime, so the game went into the Colorado Eagles second ever shootout in team history. The Blazers' Roberston netted the winning shootout goal, leaving the Eagles with a disappointing shootout loss and a 6-4-1 record, placing them second in the Northwest division with 13 points.

COACH'S SHOW
Head Coach Chris Stewart's "Coach's Show" will air today, Monday, November 10, at 5 p.m. on 1410 AM the Zone. The show is broadcast live from Bennigans in Fort Collins and is hosted by The Zone's Kevin McGlue and the Colorado Eagles play-by-play personality, Tori Holt. This week's "Coach's Show" will consist of commentary on the Colorado Eagles Wednesday night match up against the Wichita Thunder, Friday's face off with New Mexico, and the away games Saturday and Sunday against Wichita and Oklahoma City. A couple players will be there to discuss the games as well. Fans are encouraged to come to Bennigans to listen to the show, and if they cannot make it they can always call in with questions.
