San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO – It's going to take a while for the San Diego Gulls to catch up. They've only played six games this season, while more than half of the other ECHL teams are already in double digits. That's why we keep telling you not to worry about the standings...yet. It's too distorted right now.

Two of the six games came Friday and Saturday against the Florida Everblades. It was Florida's first and last visit to the Sports Arena and the first time the Gulls played a team from the East.

WEEK IN REVIEW:

San Diego split the weekend series with the Everblades. Teams combined for 11 goals Friday with the Gulls eking out a 6-5 shootout win. Saturday the Everblades regrouped for a 3-1 win.

Nov. 7 vs. Florida:

Samy Nasreddine scored twice and Billy Tibbetts finished with three points as the Gulls topped the Everblades, 6-5, in a shootout. Nasreddine scored for the first time this year midway through the first period and added a second tally late in the second to give San Diego a 5-4 edge. Tibbetts, who had two goals and an assist in his previous outing, notched a marker and helped out on two more before putting in the decisive goal during the shootout. Trevor Koenig stopped 34 shots and all five in the shootout. Brian McCullough had two goals and two assists, including the game-tying tally for Florida early in the third. Rob Zepp ended up with 39 saves in net for the Everblades.

Nov. 8 vs. Florida:

Brent McDonald finished with a goal and an assist to lead the Everblades over the Gulls, 3-1. McDonald assisted on a second-period goal by Gary Shaneberger and finished the scoring with a power-play tally midway through the third. McCullough added a pair of assists for Florida while Jeff Maund earned the win in net with 28 saves. David Burleigh stopped 25 shots in a losing effort for the Gulls, who had scored six goals in each of their last two games.

San Diego now embarks on a four-game road trip, which starts with a pair of games Tuesday and Wednesday in Anchorage, Alaska. Both games against the Aces begin at 8 p.m. (PST). The Gulls then play in Bakersfield Friday and Long Beach Saturday, with both of those contests starting at 7 p.m. (PST).
