Nailers reclaim top stop

Wheeling Nailers News Release

TRENTON, NJ. - Tuesday night's game may not have been a must win for the Wheeling Nailers but with only four games remaining and trailing the Royals and Storm by one point every game is critical if they hoped to finish in the top spot of the North Division.

In the first period the Titans struck first off a rebound goal by Jim Henkel. Later the Nailers, playing without top scorer Kurtis McLean and defensemen Daniel Fernholm got it going. At 8:13 Eric Sonnenberg tied the game at 1. Brendon Hodge gave the Nailers their first lead of the night on a power play goal at 11:59. Hodge would end the scoring in the first at 17:51 rifling a shot past the Titans goaltender to make it 3-1 Nailers at the end of one.

In the second period Luis Tremblay's 14th goal of the season gave the Nailers 4-1 lead. The three goal lead would be all the cushion Andy Franck and the Nailers would need to capture first place in the North for the first time since February 17th.

The Nailers will now host the Toledo Storm in what will be a must win game if the Nailers want to hold onto first place on Thursday night at 7:00. For more information or to order tickets for this show down call the Nailers office at 304-234-GOAL or online at www.wheelingnailers.com.
