Everblades' Saviano Named In Glas Co ECHL Player Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Steve Saviano of the Florida Everblades is the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for Mar. 27-Apr. 2, 2006. Saviano won the award for Jan. 2-8 and joins Ryan Kinasewich of Utah and Garett Bembridge of Idaho as the only two-time winners this season.

The 24-year-old had 10 points (5g-5a) and a plus-minus rating of +6 while helping the Everblades go 2-0-1 to improve to 45-20-4 and 94 points and secure second place in the South Division, clinching a bye in the first round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs.

After registering two points (1g-1a) in a 4-1 win at South Carolina on Mar. 28, the 5-foot-8 and 180-pound right wing had four goals and five points in a 6-2 win against Pensacola on Mar. 31, tying the Everblades record for goals in a game and points in a game. He tallied three assists in a 5-4 shootout, the fifth time that he has had three assists, the 10th time he has scored three points or more and the 18th time he has had a multiple-point game.

Saviano is tied for first on the Everblades with five game-winning goals and is second with 43 assists and 68 points in 41 games. He is third on the team with 23 power-play points (8ppg-15ppa) and is fourth with 25 goals. He is under contract to Lowell of the American Hockey League where he has nine points (6g-3a) in 25 games.

In his first professional season in 2004-05, Saviano had 52 points (14g-38a) in 58 regular season games and 18 points (4g-14a) in 17 Kelly Cup Playoff games for the Everblades while also picking up an assist in six games with Lowell.

The native of Reading, Mass. played four years at the University of New Hampshire from 2000-04 where he had 117 points (50g-67a) in 139 games. He led the Wildcats to the NCAA Frozen Four and National Championship game in 2003. In 2003-04, he was selected as the team's Most Valuable Player and was also named Hockey East Player of the Year after scoring 49 points (27g-22a) in 41 games.

On behalf of Steve Saviano, a case of pucks will be donated to an Estero, Florida area youth hockey organization by In Glas Co, the exclusive puck supplier for the ECHL. In Glas Co has donated over 14,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities since it began sponsoring the award in 2000-01.
