Reading, PA - The Reading Royals of the ECHL, affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings of the National Hockey League and the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, today announced that defenseman T.J. Kemp has been selected as a member of the ECHL All-Rookie Team. Kemp, a first year pro who had a stellar four year career at Mercyhurst College, has racked up forty points (13 goals and 27 assists) in sixty games with the Royals this year. The Pickering, Ontario, native did not pick up a point until his eighth game of the season (November 11) when he tied a team record with a five assist night in the Royals' 7-4 win over the Dayton Bombers. That game actually kicked off a ten game point streak for Kemp, during which he scored three goals and assisted on fifteen others. Over the course of the season, Kemp has had three multi-goal games and ten multi-point performances. His offensive output has consistently put Kemp amongst the leading scoring defensemen in the league, and he is currently tied for eleventh in that category with teammate Eric Werner. In fact, Kemp and Werner lead all rookie defensemen in the ECHL in scoring this season. Kemp is currently on loan to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League, which marks his fourth trip of the season to the AHL where he has played a total of 11 games this year. The All-Rookie Team is determined in a vote of ECHL coaches, who were asked to select a goaltender, two defensemen and three forwards. A rookie is a player who has played in less than 25 professional games.

The Royals return to action this Friday night when they face the Dayton Bombers visit the Sovereign Center in Reading (7:00 pm) for the last home game of the regular season. That night is Fan Appreciation Night, during which special prizes will be given out throughout the evening, and the first 2000 fans in attendance will receive a Reagan Rome bobblehead courtesy of Susquehanna Patriot Bank. Royals' game day broadcasts can be heard on ESPN Radio 1240 am in Ephrata and on the internet at www.royalshockey.com with pre-game beginning 30 minutes before the opening face-off. Streaming video is also available through the Royals' website on a pay per view basis provided by B2 Networks.
