Wheeling Nailers News Release

WHEELING, WV – The Wheeling Nailers announce that they have signed forward Evgeny Lazarev. As per club policy terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Lazarev, 24, joins the Nailers for his sixth professional season, he played four seasons for the Hershey Bears of the AHL, appearing in 229 games, recording 94 points. He returned to Russia in 2002-2003 and played in four games before sustaining a season ending injury.

The 6'1" 220 pound native from Kharkov, Ukraine, was drafted in 1998 by the Colorado Avalanche in the third round(79th overall), and is looking to make his comeback with Nailers this season. He started the season off with Johnstown playing in 5 games, scoring 1 goal and 2 assists, with 12 penalty minutes.

"Evgeny is a big strong kid who understands the game and how to play within a system. He is a proven player at the AHL level, but with his injury he has to work hard to get back to that level. We're happy to have him start his comeback in Wheeling," said Head Coach Pat Bingham about his new player.

The Nailers will play Friday when they will face the Trenton Titans at 7:30PM on Teddy Bear Toss night, to kick off the Toys for Tots campaign with the Marines. Don't miss your chance to see the Nailers build on last year's historic season. For more information call the Nailers office at 1-877-NAIL-TIX or (304)234-GOAL.
