Fresno Falcons News Release

Fresno, Calif. - The Fresno Falcons traded defenseman Kevin Truelson to the Gwinnett Gladiators today in exchange for right winger Sam Ftorek.

Ftorek is a seventh year pro who, after racking up 21 points (11g-10a) in 18 games with the Greensboro Generals last season, earned a promotion to the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League. He appeared in 52 games for the Monarchs and recorded 15 points (6g-9a) and 63 penalty minutes. In 2002-03, the 6'2", 190-lb. native of Wolfeboro, N.H., netted 33 goals and averaged nearly a point per game to go along with 135 PIM for the Generals. He had five assists in 10 games with the Gladiators this season.

Sam is the son of Robbie Ftorek, a former head coach of the Los Angeles Kings, New Jersey Devils and Boston Bruins and currently the head coach of the AHL's Albany River Rats.

"When Shawn Heaphy unexpectedly left the team, he put us in a real bind with our depth at forward. We had more depth on defense, and Kevin attracted a lot of attention from other teams," said Falcons Head Coach Greg Spenrath. "Ftorek knows how to put the puck in the net and gives us more grit and toughness up front. He will complement the talents of players like Dan Tessier and David Brisson very well."

Truelson, who was Fresno's lone ECHL All-Star from a year ago when he led the club's defensemen in scoring with 31 points (9g-22a), heads to Gwinnett with two goals and five assists through 14 games.
