Condors Draw Record 8,204, Steelheads Get Second Sellout

The 8,204 fans in Bakersfield on Friday was the largest ECHL crowd for the Condors and the third-largest crowd in the history of Bakersfield Centennial Garden which opened in 1998-99. Idaho recorded its second sellout of the season with 5,007 on Friday against Alaska, giving the league 14 sellouts. Drawing its third consecutive crowd over 6,000 with 6,003 on Saturday, Gwinnett is averaging a league-high 6,942 per game. The league is averaging 4,082, up eight percent from the first six weeks of last season.

Atlantic City Leads League With 12 Wins, 26 Points

Posting back-to-back home wins against Long Beach and a road win at Trenton, Atlantic City extended its winning streak to four games and improved to 9-0-1 in its last 10 games. The Boardwalk Bullies are in first place in the North Division at 12-4-2 and lead the league with 12 wins and 26 points. Atlantic City travels to Toledo on Friday and to Johnstown on Saturday.

Going 1-0-1 over the weekend, Bakersfield is 10-1-2 and continues to lead the ECHL in winning percentage with .846 while leading the West Division with 22 points, one point ahead of Idaho (10-5-1) and Alaska (10-7-1). Bakersfield plays at Victoria on Sunday while Idaho plays at San Diego on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and Alaska hosts Las Vegas on Friday and Saturday.

Charlotte, which leads the East Division at 11-4-1, is second in the league with 11 wins and 23 points despite losing its last two games. The Checkers play at Pee Dee on Friday and host Columbia on Saturday. Pee Dee has won its last three games to move into second place in the East at 10-4-2.

In the North Division, Wheeling (10-6-0) and Johnstown (7-3-6) are tied for second place with 20 points. Wheeling extended its winning streak to six games with home wins against Dayton and Trenton and a road win at Toledo. The Nailers will travel to Dayton on Thursday before playing at Peoria on Friday and Sunday. Johnstown plays at Dayton on Friday and at Trenton on Sunday while hosting Atlantic City on Saturday.

Winning three games in a row, Gwinnett is 8-3-4 and has moved into first place in the South Division with 20 points, four points ahead of Louisiana (7-3-2) and Pensacola (7-3-2). The Gladiators will host Greenville on Friday before traveling to Pensacola on Saturday and Texas on Sunday. Louisiana hosts Pensacola on Tuesday and Texas on Friday before visiting Augusta on Saturday. In addition to its games against Gwinnett and Louisiana, Pensacola will host Mississippi on Friday.

Week Produces Season-High Eight Shutouts

There were a season-high eight shutouts last week, including three 1-0 games on Saturday and a 1-0 game on Sunday. Included in the 1-0 games were shootout wins by Alaska at Idaho on Saturday and by Las Vegas at Pensacola on Sunday.

Alaska's Peter Aubry made 25 saves in regulation and stopped three of four shooters in the shootout to defeat Idaho's Frank Doyle, who had 33 saves in regulation and overtime and stopped two of five shooters in the shootout. It was the second shutout of the season for both Aubry and Doyle, tying them for third in the league with Reading's Cody Rudkowsky, Atlantic City's Jake Moreland and Pee Dee's Sebastien LaPlante.

Las Vegas' Marc Magliarditi made 44 saves in regulation and overtime and stopped three of five shooters in the shootout to defeat Pensacola's Frederic Cloutier, who made 19 saves in regulation and overtime and stopped two of five shooters in the shootout. It was the first shutout of the season for both Magliarditi, who holds the ECHL record for career shutouts with 21, and Cloutier, who moves into a tie for 10th place on the league list with 11 career shutouts.

Chris Madden of Long Beach and Dany Sabourin of Wheeling are tied for the league lead with three shutouts each. Madden is 8-1-1 and leads the league with a goals-against average of 1.15 and a save percentage of .969. Sabourin is 10-2-0 and is tied for the league lead in wins while leading the league in shootout wins with three. Sabourin ranks second with a goals-against average of 1.28 and a save percentage of .956.

There have been 29 shutouts by 22 goaltenders. Long Beach, Reading and Wheeling are tied for the team lead with three shutouts each while Alaska, Atlantic City, Columbia, Idaho, Pee Dee, Pensacola and Toledo each have two shutouts. Ten teams (Augusta, Bakersfield, Charlotte, Dayton, Greenville, Johnstown, Mississippi, Peoria, San Diego and Trenton) have not recorded a shutout. Dayton and Wheeling have been shut out a league-high three times while Alaska, Idaho, Las Vegas, Mississippi, Pensacola, Peoria, and Reading have each been shut out twice. Ten teams (Atlantic City, Augusta, Bakersfield, Charlotte, Greenville, Gwinnett, Johnstown, Toledo, Trenton and Victoria) have not been shut out.

Salmon Kings Play First Home Game Sunday

Victoria will make ECHL history again on Sunday when they host West Division Bakersfield in the first-ever regular season league game played outside the United States. The Salmon Kings and Condors will also play on Tuesday and Wednesday.

After opening the season with 14 road games, the Salmon Kings will now play 14 home games in a row at the Bear Mountain Arena, a 2,800-seat facility that opened in February in the Victoria suburb of Colwood, British Columbia. Victoria is awaiting completion of the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre, a $30 million state-of-the-art multipurpose facility with a seating capacity of 7,000.

Victoria made league history on October 22 when it became the first ECHL team outside the United States to play a league game, losing 7-2 at Bakersfield. Because of the historic significance, memorabilia from the game was sent for display at the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto which has also requested items from Sunday's game.

The Salmon Kings played the first-ever ECHL games in Canada, losing twice in preseason matches against Idaho, 7-2 on October 15 at the Prospera Centre in Chilliwack, British Columbia and 7-4 on October 16 at the Cowichan Community Centre in Duncan, British Columbia.

Victoria ended its epic season-opening road trip with a 3-2 shootout loss at Bakersfield on Saturday and opens its home stand with a 3-10-1 record, including a 0-2-1 mark against Bakersfield. In 2003-04, Fresno opened with 11 consecutive road games (6-5-0) while awaiting the completion of the Save Mart Center.

Reading Looks For 10th Straight Win Friday

Posting back-to-back wins at Peoria on Friday and Saturday, Reading extended its league-best winning streak to nine games while eclipsing the team record of eight consecutive wins set in the team's inaugural season in 2001-02 (November 30-December 15).

Reading, who has won a league-leading five consecutive road games, will look to become the 16th team in league history to win 10 consecutive games when they host North Division rival Trenton on Friday at the Sovereign Center. Reading, which lost 3-1 at Trenton on October 22 and 3-2 at home on October 23, travels to Trenton on Saturday. The Royals are 11-18-2 all-time against the Titans, including a 4-12-0 record in Trenton.

Wheeling won 12 consecutive games last season (February 20-March 12) to become the first team since 2001-02 to win more than 10 games in a row. Louisiana had 14 straight wins in 2001-02 (November 23-December 22), tying the league record set by Knoxville in 1993-94 (December 28-January 29), as the IceGators set league records for wins (56), road wins (26), home wins (30), points percentage (.806) and points (116). Peoria (February 17-March 14) and Trenton (February 1-22) both won 10 consecutive games in 2001-02. There have been seven teams that have won 10 games, two teams that have won 11 games, four teams that have won 12 games and two teams that have won 14 games.

After being shut out twice and scoring only four goals while opening the season with five straight losses, the Royals have scored 35 goals in their last nine games to raise their goals per game average from 0.80 to 2.79. Allowing only three goals in two games last week, Reading continues to lead the league in goals-against average with 1.43.

Rookie Barry Brust made 31 saves in a 2-1 win on Friday and had 32 saves in a 3-2 win on Saturday, extending his winning streak to five games. Under contract to Los Angeles of the National Hockey League and in his first professional season, Brust is 5-1-0 and ranks third in the league with a save percentage of .952 and fourth in the league with a goals-against average of 1.30. Cody Rudkowsky, who was placed on the seven-day injured reserve on Thursday, is 4-4-0 while ranking third in the league with a goals-against average of 1.29 and tied for third with two shutouts while ranking fourth in save percentage with .949.

Picking up an assist on Friday and a game-winning shorthand goal on Saturday, Graig Mischler extended his scoring streak to seven games, which is the longest active scoring streak in the league and tied for the fifth longest scoring streak this season. After scoring two points, a pair of assists on October 23 against Trenton, in the first seven games, Mischler has scored nine points (3g-6a) in his last seven games. Mischler, who was loaned to Manchester of the American Hockey League on Monday, leads the Royals in scoring the last five games with seven points (2g-5a) to move into second on the team with 11 points, including a team-high eight assists.

Rookie Ryan Kinasewich has scored six points (3g-3a) in his last five games and leads the team with 12 points and is tied for the team lead with five goals while ranking second with seven assists. Under contract to Manchester of the AHL, Jeff Miles leads the team in plus-minus rating with +10 which ties him for second among league rookies and tied for fourth overall. Miles is tied for the team lead with five goals and ranks third on the team with 10 points (5g-5a).
