Rookies Take Center Stage

On Friday night, the Nailers had their rookies on full display. Early in the second period, Bobby Farnham put his team on the scoreboard, ripping a shot into the top corner of the net for his first professional goal. Less than four minutes later, Farnham was in the spotlight again, as he dropped the gloves with Chris Wideman. Later in the period, rookie blueliner Reid McNeill got into the act with his first career fight, as he got the upper hand against Jean Bourbeau. Then, in the third period, rookie Tom Kuhnhackl inserted his name into the box score, as he snapped his first professional goal into the top shelf.

Crazy Eight for Crowder

While it may not show up in the official statistics as a streak, Paul Crowder is enjoying quite the stretch, putting points on the board. Crowder concluded the 2011-12 regular season by picking up at least one point in each of the final two games. He then found his name on the score sheet in each of the Nailers' four postseason contests, as he accumulated five points against the Kalamazoo Wings last spring. The Victoria, BC native has continued to produce points in both regular season tilts thus far this year, giving him eleven points in an unofficial eight-game point streak.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Calling International

Following Friday night's game, the Nailers saw two of their players get the call to the American Hockey League's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. After scoring a goal in just his second professional game, former fourth round draft pick Tom Kuhnhackl was reassigned to the AHL. Joining him on his journey to pro hockey's next level is former fifth round draft pick Dominik Uher. Prior to their new assignments, Kuhnhackl and Uher were the lone European players on Wheeling's roster. They are also the second and third players to be reassigned to the Baby Pens this season, joining Adam Payerl.

One and Done

Goaltender Nathan Lawson was assigned to the Elmira Jackals prior to Friday night's game. In the game, the netminder with ten NHL games on his resume, turned aside 32 of the 34 shots that the Nailers sent his way, earning his first ECHL victory since 2008, when Lawson was a member of the Utah Grizzlies. For his efforts, the Calgary, AB native has since been reassigned to the AHL's Binghamton Senators. That leaves the Elmira goal crease back in the hands of reigning ECHL Goaltender of the Week Marc Cheverie, as well as New Jersey Devils' prospect Maxime Clermont.

Protecting Their House

Last season, the Elmira Jackals finished third in the ECHL, racking up 25 victories in 36 regular season games on home ice, before compiling a 4-1 mark at home in postseason action. The Jackals have continued that success this season, having won each of their first three games at First Arena, as they are now half way through a season opening six-game homestand. Elmira has failed to win more than half of its home games only once since joining the ECHL, when they won 17 of 36 games during the 2010-11 campaign.

NEXT HOME GAME: Fri. Oct. 26th - 7:00PM
