Wheeling Nailers News Release

The Jackals came out flying during the game's first twenty minutes of play, and had two goals to show for it. For the second night in a row, Artem Demkov opened the scoring, taking a lead pass from Andrew Rowe, before slipping a shot through Scott Darling's legs for a breakaway goal. 5:05 later, the home team extended the advantage, as Louie Caporusso stole the puck in the slot, en route to giving his club a 2-0 lead at the end of one period.

Elmira continued their offensive success in the middle frame, tallying three times, with all three goals coming on the man advantage. The first marker came off of Artem Demkov's stick, as he took a centering feed from Andrew Rowe, redirecting it past Darling from the right side of the crease. 2:27 later, the Jackals found the twine again, as Demkov set up Andrew Rowe. Later in the frame, Rowe connected for his second straight goal, splitting past the defense, after being set up by defensemen Danny New and Chris Wideman.

Patrick Killeen replaced Darling between the pipes in the third period, and he combined with Marc Cheverie to keep the two clubs off of the scoreboard in the final stanza, as Elmira finished off a 5-0 triumph.

Marc Cheverie ended up with 30 saves, earning his first shutout and third win of the season. Scott Darling took the loss, making 17 saves on 22 shots, before being relieved by Patrick Killeen, who was perfect on eight shots.

The Nailers will conclude their four-game road trip in Reading on Sunday afternoon at 4:05, before returning home for two games against the Royals on Friday and Saturday.
