Orlando came out strong last night, defeating the Everblades 8-2 at the Germain Arena in Estero, Florida. The Solar Bears struck for four first-period goals, including three in a 2:46 span midway through the period. Four more goals in the second period, including two from Ryan Cruthers, stretched Orlando's lead to 8-0 going into the third stanza. Florida notched the only two goals in the third, and the Solar Bears earned their first victory over Florida with an 8-2 win. The Solar Bears are 1-1-1-0 against Florida on the season.
Solar Bears Notes:
Orlando is playing their first-ever ECHL home game tonight. The last time the Solar Bears took the ice at home was May 27, 2001, winning the Turner Cup over the Chicago Wolves. The game tonight is sold out... C Ryan Cruthers and LW Nick Petersen have each scored in all three Solar Bears games. Cruthers owns the team lead in goals (4), while Petersen leads the team lead in points (7)... C Mathew Sisca recorded four assists in last night's victory over Florida... In three games against the Everblades, Orlando owns a 131 to 90 shots on goal advantage... F Josh Caron scored his first professional goal in the first period last night. He ended the game with one goal and one assist.
Everblades Notes:
D Taylor Ellington is tied for first among all ECHL defensemen with four assists... The Everblades retired the jersey of Ernie Hartlied prior to the start of last night's game. Hartlieb is the team's all-time leader in games played (350) and third in points (257)... LW Matt Marquardt, F David Rutherford, and F Justin Shugg are tied for the team lead in goals with two each.
