Toledo Walleye News Release
(Kalamazoo, MI)- Toledo generated 42 shots on goal tonight but fell 4-2 in Kalamazoo. Toledo is 2-1-0-0 on the season.
Toledo would out shoot the Wings 16-15 in a wide open first period. Kalamazoo collected the lone goal when Darren Archibald beat goaltender Petr Mrazek at 11:25.
"One of our biggest keys tonight was to make smart, simple plays," said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. "It is extremely hard to win in this building. We played well enough to win tonight but credit Kalamazoo for making the plays." The Walleye would tie the game at a goal apiece when Willie Coetzee finished a perfect give and go with Byron Froese for his second goal of the year. Joey Martin also collected an assist on the even strength goal. Kalamazoo would regain the lead just three minutes when Archibald would score his second goal of the game this time on the power play. The Wings would add another goal to the scoreboard before the period ran out to lead Toledo 3-1 after two. Kalamazoo would take a 4-1 lead five minutes into the third period. Toledo would cut into the lead when Byron Froese would score a shorthanded goal at 10:27 of the third (lone assist to Terry Broadhurst). The Walleye could not get any closer despite a number of chances in the period and out shot Kalamazoo 42-40 for the game. Walleye Notes: Goaltender Petr Mrazek made 36 Saves and is 1-1-0-0 on the season. Toledo was 0-5 on the power play and is 0-12 to start the season with the man advantage.
