Colorado Eagles News Release

LOVELAND, Colo. - The Idaho Steelheads completed a three-game sweep of the Colorado Eagles at the Budweiser Events Center with a 6-1 win. The Steelheads got out to a quick start and rode it to a solid finish, and despite the Eagles owning a 36-28 advantage in shots, rookie netminder Josh Robinson was rarely tested in netting his second win in as many nights.

Idaho dominated the first half of the opening frame, building a 3-0 lead in the first 13 and a half minutes. Rookie Sam Carrick picked up his first pro goal 2:40 in by converting a 2-on-1 rush from the right circle with a low shot inside the left post. Two and a half minutes later, Ron Meyers capitalized on another Idaho rush with a shorthanded goal to make it 2-0.

The Eagles killed two Idaho power plays midway through the first frame, but shortly thereafter, Jeremie Blain made it 3-0 when the puck found him wide open atop the slot. The Steelheads defenseman skated through the slot untouched before beating Kyle Jones.

Idaho increased their lead to 4-0 five and a half minutes into the second period when Tristan King scored from the right circle, sending a shot past a screened Jones and into the net. Following the goal, Jones was replaced by rookie Adam Brown after stopping just 13 of 17 shots in 25:32 of action.

Colorado finally got on the board at 14:14 of the second stanza with the help of a 5-on-3 power play. It took just 20 seconds of the two-man advantage for Jack Combs to throw a shot past Robinson from below the right circle, but it would end up being the only Eagles goal of the game.

The Eagles had two separate power play chances to start the third period, and generated plenty of pressure, but they couldn't crack Idaho's defense. Making matters worse, the Steelheads scored their second shorthanded tally of the game with just three seconds left in the Eagles' second power play chance of the period when Andrew Carroll scored a highlight reel goal to make it 5-1 just over three minutes into the period. Justin Dowling capped the scoring at 16:55.

Colorado's next game will come next Friday night in Utah, one night before they play in Las Vegas.
