
Monsters Announce Pair of Roster Moves

CLEVELAND - The AHL's Cleveland Monsters, top affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, announced Saturday that the Blue Jackets recalled defenseman Gabriel Carlsson from Cleveland and the Monsters signed forward Jared VanWormer to a professional tryout (PTO) contract. Carlsson posted two penalty minutes and a -1 rating in six appearances for Columbus this season and added 2-10-12 with 14 penalty minutes and a +13 rating in 41 appearances for the Monsters. In 53 appearances for the ECHL's Allen Americans this season, VanWormer supplied 21-15-36 with 12 penalty minutes and a +14 rating.
A 6'5", 192 lb. left-shooting native of Orebro, Sweden, Carlsson, 23, was originally selected by Columbus in the first round (29th overall) of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft and signed a three-year, two-way entry level contract with the Blue Jackets on April 19, 2016. In 23 career NHL appearances for the Blue Jackets spanning parts of four seasons from 2016-20, Carlsson supplied 0-3-3 with eight penalty minutes and a -4 rating and posted a +1 rating in five postseason appearances for Columbus in 2017. In 144 career AHL appearances for Cleveland spanning parts of four seasons from 2016-20, Carlsson contributed 6-24-30 with 44 penalty minutes and a +13 rating. In 92 career SHL appearances for Linkoping HC spanning parts of three seasons from 2014-17, Carlsson tallied 3-12-15 with eight penalty minutes and a +15 rating. Additionally, Carlsson represented Sweden in the 2016 and 2017 IIHF U20 World Junior Championships.
A 6'0", 203 lb. right-shooting native of Traverse City, MI, VanWormer, 27, posted 0-1-1 with four penalty minutes and a +1 rating in eight AHL appearances for the Milwaukee Admirals, Colorado Eagles and Stockton Heat during the 2018-19 season. In 186 career ECHL appearances for the Kansas City Mavericks and Allen spanning parts of four seasons from 2017-20, VanWormer registered 63-63-126 with 62 penalty minutes and a +16 rating. Prior to his professional career, VanWormer contributed 25-35-60 with 86 penalty minutes and a +14 rating in 136 NCAA appearances for Ferris State University spanning four seasons from 2013-17. During his senior campaign in 2016-17, VanWormer served as the Bulldogs' captain.
