LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS
Vs. Portland (11/16): Three power play goals on nine attempts brought the Portland Pirates to a 5-3 win over the Manchester Monarchs at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. Manchester collected goals from center Gabe Gauthier (2) and defenseman Brian Boyle. The Pirates lit the lamp with tallies from center Geoff Platt, center Jason King, defenseman Brett Festerling, right wing Mike Hoffman and defenseman Andy Schneider. Monarchs goaltender Dan Cloutier took the loss stopping 27-of-31 shots he faced. Netminder Erik Esrberg stopped 3-of-4 shots. Pirates goaltender Mike McKenna earned the win with 32 saves. Manchester went 3-for-7 on the power play. Portland was 3-for-9 with the man advantage.
Vs. Springfield (11/17): Rookie defenseman Brian Boyle, dressed in his army fatigues as the team honored the military, fire and police for American Pride Night, scored the first goal and the last goal of the game in the Manchester Monarchs 4-3 overtime victory over the Springfield Falcons at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night. The Monarchs also collected goals from centers Marc-Andre Cliche and Matt Ryan. The Falcons answered back with tallies from defenseman T.J. Kemp, center Marc Pouliot and center Rob Schremp. Monarchs goaltender Erik Ersberg stopped 27-of-29 shots through 45 minutes of play. Netmnder Dan Cloutier earned the win with nine saves on 10 shots. Falcons goaltender Devan Dubnyk took the loss with 35 saves. Manchester went 2-for-5 on the power play. Springfield was 1-for-10 with the man advantage.
MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES
The Monarchs (6-7-1-1) are in sixth place in the Atlantic Division with 14 points.
The Atlantic Division is the tightest division in the AHL as 10 points separate the first place team, the Providence Bruins and Hartford Wolf Pack at 23 points, and the last place team, the Lowell Devils with 13 points.
The Monarchs power play sits atop the AHL with a 29.2-percentage and the penalty kill is tied for 28th place with 75.0-percent.
The Monarchs have the best home power play record as they have scored 16 goals on 46 opportunities at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Manchester has scored five power play tallies on the road for eighth place in the league.
11 of the 15 Monarchs games thus far this season have been determined by one goal. The Monarchs are 5-4-1-1 in one goal games, 1-2-0-0 in two goal games and 0-1-0-0 in three goal games.
Right wing Teddy Purcell (7-18=25) for the Monarchs scoring lead with 25 points in 15 games.
Purcell has scored at least one point in 13-of-15 games this season.
Purcell's 25 points lead the AHL in scoring and heads up the rookies.
His 18 assists are ranked first place in the AHL in that category and rank first among rookies.
Purcell's four power play goals are tied for first among AHL rookies and tied for 15th overall in the League.
Purcell's seven goals also lead AHL rookies.
Purcell is on an eight game points streak, collecting 15 points (5-10=15) since October 27.
Purcell also has nine assists in his last six games.
His 12 assists on the power play assists rank first in the AHL.
Center Gabe Gauthier (7-16=23) is ranked second on the Monarchs squad with 23 points.
Gauthier's 16 assists also rank second on the Monarchs.
Gauthier has scored at least one point in 14-of-15 games this season.
Gauthier's 23 points rank second in the AHL.
Gauthier's 16 assists are also tied for second in the AHL in that category.
Nine of Gauthier's 15 assists this season have come on the power play which ties him for sixth place in the AHL for power play assists.
Gauthier's six power play goals rank first in the AHL among power play tallies.
Two of Gauthier's four goals are game-winning goals which tie him for second place in the league for game-winners.
Gauthier is on an eight-game point-streak, collecting 12 points (4-8=12) since October 27.
Defenseman Peter Harrold leads Monarchs blueliners with 15 points (1-14=15) in 14 games.
11 of Harrold's 14 assists have come on the power play which ties him for second in the AHL for power play assists.
The second year defenseman is also ranked second among defensemen with 14 assists and fourth with his 15 points.
Defenseman Brian Boyle is ranked fourth on the Monarchs squad this season, tied for fifth place among AHL defensemen and tied for eighth place among AHL rookies with 12 points (6-6=12).
Boyle also ranks first among AHL rookies and third among defensemen with 53 shots on goal this season.
Center David Meckler has scored the first goal of the game twice in the Monarchs 12 games he's played in this season. He is tied for eighth place in the first goal of the game category in the AHL.
Three of Meckler's four goals have come against the Springfield Falcons this season.
Right wing Kevin Westgarth is tied for 14th place in the AHL in penalty minutes with 51 in 13 games and is ranked first among rookies. He has five major penalties that rank first among rookies.
