Adirondack Phantoms News Release
UPCOMING OPPONENTS
Wednesday, November 21 - Phantoms at Norfolk Admirals, 7:15: The Phantoms and Admirals (Tampa Bay Lightning) face off in a Thanksgiving Eve affair at Norfolk Scope. It's the fourth meeting of the season for these two teams. The Phantoms have won all three so far and have outscored the Admirals 13-8 in the series. The Admirals are 5-10-0-2 on the season, which puts them in seventh place in the East Division. However, Norfolk is coming off a 2-1 victory over Lowell on Sunday. Kyle Wanvig leads the team with 22 points (10G, 12A) and is among the AHL's leading scorers.
Friday, November 23 - Phantoms vs. Hershey Bears, 7:05 and Saturday, November 24 - Phantoms at Hershey, 7:00: After an unusual situation where they did not see each other for the first seven weeks of the season, the Phantoms will fire up their most heated rivalry this weekend with a home-and-home series against the Hershey Bears (Washington Capitals). It starts at the Wachovia Center on Friday night and continues at the GIANT Center on Saturday night, and marks the first two games of a 12-game season series. After a slow start, the Bears have won three in a row to jump into fourth place in the East Division with a 7-7 record. There's a chance that Phantoms center Ryan Potulny will finally play against his brother Grant in this game. Grant Potulny signed with the Bears in the off-season after playing for Binghamton last year. Between injuries and call-ups, however, the brothers never took the ice together in any of the eight opportunities they had to do so.
BLACK FRIDAY DOUBLEHEADER
It's going to be quite a Friday at the Wachovia Center on the day after Thanksgiving! At 1:00, the Flyers will meet the Washington Capitals in the traditional Black Friday matinee game. Then at 7:05, the Phantoms will start their 2007-08 season series against hated rival Hershey, also at the Wachovia Center. Fans sticking around from the Flyers game can hang out in the AT&T Pavilion until the game starts! From 6-7 PM, Flyers legends Bernie Parent and Gary Dornhoefer will be signing autographs on the Wachovia Center concourse. Visit Phantomshockey.com to get your tickets!
COMING OUT TO SEE SOME HOCKEY
In the seven days between Sunday, November 11 and Saturday, November 17, the Wachovia Complex hosted professional hockey on six days. The Phantoms attracted crowds of 5250, 7782, and 6510 for a total attendance of 19,542. The Flyers attracted crowds of 19,312, 19,571 and 19,621 for a total of 58,504. A total of 78,046 fans came to the Complex for hockey games this week.

RECORD KEEPING
The Phantoms are 14-2-1 for 29 points through 17 games. The team has a 12-point lead over Albany in the East Division, a six-point lead over Providence and Hartford in the Eastern Conference, and a two-point lead over Chicago for the best overall record in the AHL. The Phantoms are at least temporarily no longer off to the best start in team history. This year's team established a new record for the best 15-game start in team history at 13-1-1. The Phantoms now sit one point behind the pace of the 2004-05 team for at least four more games - that team was 13-2 through 15 games but remained at just two losses through Game #19. This year's team is one point behind that pace, but could potentially still set several new records at various benchmarks (20 games, 25 games, etc) as the season continues. The 2004-05 team was 31-23-3-4 following its 17-2 start. The team's franchise-best record of 49-18-10-3 and 111 points, set in 1996-97, is still within reach.
PHANTOMS FIRSTS WITH FLYERS
A couple Phantoms had NHL firsts last Thursday in the Flyers 4-3 SOL to the Rangers. Denis Tolpeko scored his first NHL goal, which tied the game in the third period and forced the overtime. Tolpeko also posted his first NHL point, an assist, on Jim Dowd's goal earlier in the game. On that same goal, Riley Cote had the other assist, which was his first NHL point.
MUNROE ON TOP
Phantoms goaltender Scott Munroe enters the week as the league's top goaltender with a 1.97 goals-against average in 10 appearances. He's 7-1 with a .925 save percentage.
PHANTOMS NOTABLES
Through 17 games last year, the Phantoms were 7-9-1-0. The team did not secure its 14th win or 29th point until January 6... The Phantoms have now won ten consecutive games over Binghamton - an eight-game season sweep last year and the first two games of this year's eight-game series... Alexandre Picard is third on the team in scoring with 14 points, 13 of which have come via assist. In 16 games played, he has just four penalty minutes... Pete Zingoni led the Phantoms in goals scored last year with 18. This year, through just 17 games, Zingoni and Ryan Potulny already have eight apiece. Jonathan Matsumoto is right behind with seven.
TOYOTA CUP STANDINGS
Brian Boucher leads the annual race for the Toyota Cup. Players are awarded points each time they are chosen as a star of the game, with five points given for a first star, three points for a second star and one point for a third star. The player with the most points at the end of the season will win a monetary donation to the charity of his choice courtesy of Toyota.
