Friday, November 16, 2007: Griffins 2 - Moose 4 W

For the first time in eight games, the Manitoba Moose scored the opening goal Friday night en-route to beating the visiting Grand Rapids Griffins 4-2 at the MTS Centre. Defencemen Danny Groulx and Jimmy Sharrow earned a goal and an assist each, while Drew MacIntyre earned the win and first star honours by stopping 34 of 36 shots.

Sunday, November 18, 2007: Moose 4 - Monsters 2 W

Playing their first-ever game against Lake Erie, the Manitoba Moose battled back from an early one-goal deficit to beat the Monsters 4-2 Sunday afternoon. Manitoba out-shot Lake Erie 38-18, and the road victory extends the Moose win-streak to four games. Earning first star honours, Alexandre Bolduc scored the game-winning goal and added an assist to lead all players with two points.

The Moose play three games in Week 7 -- all against North Division opponents. Manitoba rolls into Rochester Wednesday night, Syracuse Friday night, and again into Lake Erie Saturday night. The Rochester game marks the second in a seven-game road stretch -- Manitoba's longest of the season.

Upcoming Opponents

Registering back-to-back-to-back victories over the Americans Oct. 16, 17, & 19/07, and posting eight more goals than the Amerks in those three games, Manitoba carries an all-time record of 17-11-3-0 (.597) vs. the Americans into Wednesday night's game at Rochester. Last season, the Moose were 2-1-1-0 at Blue Cross Arena, improving their overall record at Rochester to 8-4-2-0 (.643). The last time the Moose lost at Blue Cross Arena was Nov. 17/06 (4-3 OTL). Mark Mancari tops Rochester's leaderboard with two goals and 15 points in 19 games, while Adam Dennis is the Amerks' top goaltender, with a record of 7-4-1, 3.04 GAA, and .905 SV%.

The Moose and Crunch start their four-game season series Friday night in Syracuse. Manitoba went 5-1-2-0 vs. Syracuse last season, bringing their all-time record to 10-7-2-1. When visiting the Crunch, the Moose are 5-4-1-0 and were shutout 3-0 in their last game at the War Memorial on Feb. 24/07. Derick Brassard leads the Crunch with 20 points (5g + 15a) in 16 games, while Tomas Popperle has played 13 of 19 games for Syracuse, amassing a 5-7-0 record, 3.25 GAA, and 0.891 SV%.

Manitoba and Lake Erie meet for the second time in a seven days Saturday night in Cleveland. In the first encounter between both clubs on Nov. 18/07, the Moose bounced back from a one-goal deficit to beat the Monsters 4-2. Alexandre Bolduc tallied a goal and an assist in the victory, while Cory Schneider earned his third professional win. T.J. Hensick scored Lake Erie's lone goal of the game and leads the Monsters with 11 points (5g + 6a) in 15 games. Tyler Weiman, Jason Bacashihua, and Mike Wall have split netminding duties for the Monsters.

MOOSE NOTES

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER: With Greg Classen's shorthanded goal Friday night vs. Grand Rapids being the lone exception, Manitoba has surrendered the first goal in nine of their past 10 games. Despite the club's failure to score first, the Moose are 7-3-0-0 in those 10 games. With come-from-behind wins Nov. 15 vs. Grand Rapids and Nov. 18 vs. Lake Erie, the Moose are now 7-5-0-0 when not scoring first and 4-0-1-0 when scoring first. Last season, Manitoba was 28-6-3-2 when scoring first and 17-17-4-3 when allowing the first goal.

KILLING ON THE PK: In the past five games, the Moose allowed only two powerplay goals in 21 opportunities, improving the club's PK% to 84.4%, good for 11th in the AHL. Manitoba's recent PK efficiency comes on the heels of a three-game stretch in which the Moose allowed five powerplay goals on 17 opportunities, including three vs. the Admirals Nov. 2/07. The PPGAs dropped the Moose to as low as 16th in the league's PK rankings in early November. Although the Moose are now 11th overall, the club is 26th in road penalty killing with 73.8%. Last season, Manitoba stifled 89.7% of opponent powerplays, good for tops in the entire league and a new franchise record.

SPREADING THE LOVE: So far this season, 19 players have scored for Manitoba but no Moose player has scored more than one goal in a single game. The last time a Moose player posted a multi-goal night was May 1/07, when Jason Jaffray scored three goals in Game 7 of the North Division Semi-Final vs. Grand Rapids. Nathan Smith is the most-recent player to score two goals in the regular season, which he accomplished Mar. 28/07 at Chicago -- meaning Moose players have gone 24 games without a multi-goal night. Last season, Jason Jaffray tied the franchise record for most goals in a game with four Oct. 24/06 at Chicago.
