Norfolk Admirals News Release
NORFOLK, VA - After encountering rough seas in their journey through the Atlantic Division last week, the Admirals are thankful to be returning home with three games at Scope this week around Thanksgiving.
On Wednesday night in Hartford, Kyle Wanvig netted two goals and Mathieu Darche had three assists in his Norfolk debut, but the Admirals fell to the Wolf Pack 6-3. On Saturday night in Springfield, Darche had a four-point night and Wanvig netted two goals to force overtime, but the Falcons upended the Admirals 5-4 in a shootout. Norfolk's top scoring line of Darche, Wanvig and Craig MacDonald continued to click as each member scored on Saturday night in Providence. However, the Atlantic Division-leading Bruins broke a 3-3 tie with an early third period goal to down the Admirals 4-3. On Sunday afternoon in Lowell, Darche had a goal and an assist and Wanvig scored with 2:55 left in the third period to lead the Admirals past the Devils 2-1.
The Admirals will play the East Division-leading Philadelphia Phantoms on Wednesday night at Scope . On Friday and Saturday nights, the Admirals host the Springfield Falcons at Scope. The puck drops for all three contests at 7:15 p.m. For a complete list of this week's numerous promotions, please read below.

DARCHE NAMED RBK/AHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
The American Hockey League announced today that Admirals left wing Mathieu Darche has been named the Rbk/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending November 18, 2007. In his first four AHL games of the season, Darche erupted for 10 points on three goals and seven assists. In recognition of his achievement, Darche will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Admirals home game.
Assigned to Norfolk on Nov. 13 after spending the first six weeks of the season in the NHL with the parent Tampa Bay Lightning, Darche made his Admirals debut on Wednesday and assisted on all three Norfolk goals in a 6-3 loss at Hartford. He came back on Friday with a goal and three assists as the Admirals rallied to earn a point for a shootout loss in Springfield. Darche scored another goal in Providence on Saturday, then finished the road trip with a goal and an assist in Sunday's 2-1 victory at Lowell. Darche recorded a point on 10 of the Admirals' 12 goals in the four games.
ADMIRALS' LOG
- No one in the American Hockey League had more points than Mathieu Darche last week, as he posted three goals and seven assists in four games.
- Darche either scored or assisted on every Norfolk goal in his first seven regulation periods of play in an Admirals uniform, notching three assists on Wednesday in a 6-3 loss at Hartford, a goal and three assists on Friday in a 4-3 shootout loss to Springfield and scoring the first goal of the game in Saturday's 4-3 loss at Providence.
- The Admirals went 1-2-0-1 on their four-game road trip to pick up three points. Darche set up both goals that were responsible for the three points Norfolk earned on the trip (Wanvig GTG on Friday in Springfield and Wanvig GWG on Sunday in Lowell).
- In just four games, Darche is averaging 2.5 points per game and is already the second-leading scorer for Norfolk.
- Kyle Wanvig registered six goals and three assists in four games with Norfolk last week. Only Darche (3G, 7A, 10PTS) had more points in that time in the American Hockey League. Each game was a multipoint game for Wanvig, highlighted by scoring the game-tying goal on Friday in Springfield and scoring the game-winning goal on Sunday in Lowell.
- Wanvig is now tied for third in AHL points (10G, 12A, 22PTS), second in goals (10) and is tied for the AHL lead in power play goals with six.
- Wanvig (7G) has scored goals in five straight games for the Admirals dating back to 11/09 vs. Hershey. If he scores on Wednesday versus Philadelphia, he will tie Troy Brouwer's franchise record for most consecutive games scoring a goal.
- Wanvig also is on a six-game scoring streak (7G, 4A) dating back to 11/07 vs. Hershey.
- Norfolk's power play has vaulted from a 9.0% rating and 28th place ranking in the AHL on 11/07 vs. Hershey to its current 14.9% efficiency and 19th best ranking.
- The Admirals had power play goals in five straight games from 11/07 vs. Hershey to 11/17 at Providence, led by five man advantage markers from Kyle Wanvig. Prior to the run, Wanvig had only one power play goal on the season. He now is tied for the league lead in power play goals with six.
- 2006-07 Norfolk Captain Craig MacDonald has points (1G, 5A) in each of four contests since joining the Admirals on Wednesday in Hartford. MacDonald is the only player with prior time spent in Norfolk on this season's squad. He ranks 34 th on Norfolk's all-time scoring list with 46 points in 54 career games.
- Defenseman David Schneider saw a five-game scoring streak (1G, 4A) snapped on Sunday in Lowell
