STARS RECAP

Tuesday, November 13

San Antonio 4 Stars 3 (OT) at Wells Fargo Arena

Nolan Baumgartner forced overtime with 23 seconds left in regulation, but it was San Antonio's David Spina who would score in the overtime to give the Rampage a 4-3 victory over the Iowa Stars Tuesday night at Wells Fargo Arena. Spina finished with a pair of goals to help the Rampage end the Stars' four game winning streak. The Stars had to battle back after being down 2-0 and 3-2 in the contest. Janos Vas and Marty Sertich each picked up their sixth goals of the season in the second period to tie the game at two. Baumgartner's equalizer late in the third, his first goal of the season, tied the game at three and came with the Stars on the power play and with an extra attacker. The goal also assured the Stars of securing a point, extending their unbeaten streak to five games. Stars netminder Tobias Stephan took the overtime loss, stopping 22 of 26 shots. San Antonio's David LeNeveu picked up the win in his first appearance versus the Stars this season on the strength of 28 saves. The Stars outshot the Rampage 31-26 for the game, including 13-6 in the third period.

Friday, November 16

Chicago 7 Stars 5 at Wells Fargo Arena

The Chicago Wolves remained undefeated in regulation and snapped the Iowa Stars' five-game unbeaten streak with a 7-5 win over the Stars Friday at Wells Fargo Arena. The Wolves finally dropped a game in regulation this past Sunday, 4-0 to San Antonio. The Stars/Wolves game on Friday was one of ups and downs for the home team. The Stars jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Marius Holtet and Toby Petersen. After the first period ended with a 2-1 score, Chicago broke out with four goals in the second period and took a 5-2 advantage into the third. Petersen scored his AHL leading 11th goal of the season, and second of the game, to cut the Wolves' lead to 5-3 51 seconds into the third period. The Wolves capitalized on a 5-on-3 power play to regain their three-goal margin just over two minutes later. The Stars would not sit tight, as they rallied again. This time it was goals from Junior Lessard at 10:57 and Joel Lundqvist 43 seconds later at 11:40, shrinking the Chicago lead to one. The Stars came close to tying the score on more the one occasion, but could not get the equalizer. An empty net goal by Kevin Doell with 1.4 seconds left closed out the scoring. Chicago's Jason Krog led his club with a pair of goals.
